Super User ChrisD46 Posted May 13, 2018 Super User Posted May 13, 2018 I picked up my first Heddon One Knocker spook type walk-the-dog top water bait today - the more expensive one with the upgraded Mustad hooks ... I have not fished with one before but read where the single tungsten ball creates a different lower pitch sound . The store had a few different colors such as chrome foxy shad , a gold chrome , translucent pearl sexy shad and lastly a subdued bone color with a touch of orange under the lip (this is the color I picked up) ... *Any fans / users of the Heddon One Knocker as well as colors you recommend ? I fish clear to slightly off color water in lakes and reservoirs , so I went with the bone color ... Thanks in advance for replies ! 2 Quote
Graham Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 Bone is a great color. Mine doesn’t have have the knocker or the upgraded hardware but it walks beautifully. I imagine the knocker will give it some nice drawing power in that more stained water. I have several poppers with the large single knocker and they have a really nice sound to em. 1 Quote
Beetlebz Posted May 13, 2018 Posted May 13, 2018 KISS... at least for me anyway. I run a bone one and the black one with the white detail. To be honest, the bone one is the only one that I ever throw. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted May 14, 2018 Author Super User Posted May 14, 2018 Not that it may matter but the new one knocker I bought is an off white / light tan with a 3D eye and orange under the lip ...Reading what I can find it appears Foxy Shad and the Pearl Melon translucent color have some followers - I'll probably add another color for different conditions later but not until I feel the bone color is a limitation . Mumbly Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 I think you made a fine choice in the Bone one-knocker. I don't think the bone will limit you at all. It's a strong color choice when it comes to topwater. 1 Quote
sdsc357 Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 I have almost all the colors of the one knocker, favorite color is the bone. I also use the bone with silver side and red head. I use them primary for topwater striper. Over the pass 2 years I have had a few that broke on me. The inner wall that keeps the weight in the tail would shatter and the weight would freely move inside the lure. This would cause the lure's action and noise to change dramatically. I sent 6 broken lures to Heddon and got them replaced. Quote

UPSmallie Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 Yes! Bone has done well for me. Work it aggressively in calm water or with minor chop on the surface during mornings or evenings. Got my PB pike (32 inches on it) as well as a 3.25 lb smallie on it before. An absolute adrenaline rush when something smokes it Quote
Super User webertime Posted May 14, 2018 Super User Posted May 14, 2018 Bone is the best color for sure. One Knocker VS Rattles? The fish will tell you, I for one see a lot more of the one knocker getting thrown, the rattling version is sort of a change up that can give the fish a bit of a change of pace for sure. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 17, 2018 Global Moderator Posted May 17, 2018 Hard to go wrong with a bone one knocker spook. I also have a kind of translucent colored one that does well in very clear water. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted May 17, 2018 Author Super User Posted May 17, 2018 Anyone see the need to have a dark colored One Knocker Spook ? All I see are light colored , two toned and chrome colors ? Quote
snake95 Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 I like them, I've used the bullfrog color for largemouth. I seem to do better with them when the bass are very aggressive, late post-spawn when they'll hit topwater readily. I've also found the pink ones work great for stripers inshore fishing, but that's another story. Quote
