When I was logging firewood we were splitting oak onetime and I seen large bore holes inside the heart of the wood. I finally found what was doing it. Large diameter grubs about 4” to 5” long and rounder than a dime but smaller than a nickle. I been tempted ever since to take a larger plastic grub and cut the tail off so it looks like the natural grubs.  Ever see the real grubs? These were white in color.

Yes I've seen them and they are delicious. No mustard or ketchup needed. Yum, yum and yum.

In the book Knowing Bass - they show results of experiments that showed bass preferred a grub with no appendages over one with claws or legs
