Fisher Guy Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 Im about to purchase the G Loomis 852s rod and wonder if anyone has experience with it. I also have a st Croix legend elite 7' ML rod. Any idea how it compares? I fish plastics typically 5" seniors and similar worms Quote
optimator Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 I use a 842s. It's my do all spinning rod. I primarily use it for weighless plastics, I like it a lot. You'll be good to go. Quote
Brad in Texas Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 I don't think I have ever read a bad review of a G Loomis rod, anywhere. As long as you have the power dialed in correctly for its intended purposes, you'll be purchasing a rod with a solid reputation. An 852 would seem just about right for 5" plastics, etc. Brad 1 Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted May 12, 2018 Super User Posted May 12, 2018 That's a great rod for an all around spinning set up. I have it in the NRX and it does great with wacky rigs and small jigs. Quote

I think that's the one I want! Quote
Hulkster Posted May 12, 2018 Posted May 12, 2018 I have the 852s in the E6X version, even though its a 'jig and worm' rod, I use it for all purpose spinning and I really like it. I have it paired with a stradic 3000 FK Quote
bigfruits Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 which 852s are you looking at? ive fished the old glx 852s and the nrx 852s and they are perfect all around finesse spinning rods. if i only had one spinning rod it would be one of these two with dropshot and ned rig being better on the nrx and 6" senkos and light jigs and trig better on the old glx as the old glx fishes a bit more powerful than the nrx. not sure where the new glx 852 fits in. st. croix typically fish more powerful than loomis. i think your ML st.croix will fish a bit lighter than the 852s (2 power, Med). probably more ideal for dropshot and ned rig than the 852s. IMO the 852s would be more ideal for shakey, wacky 5" senkos, weightless plastics etc. Quote
johnmyers Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 I have 2 852s in GLX and I don't see how you could do better for a bass spinning rod unless maybe an NRX 1 Quote
Fisher Guy Posted May 15, 2018 Author Posted May 15, 2018 thanks i ordered the nrx 852s!!!!!! 3 Quote
