Got a baitcaster I'm going to spool with something other than braid. Will be a general purpose setup, you name it I'll throw on this setup. What would you recommend along with what lb test?

My favorite line to use on a multi purpose rod is P-Line Flouroclear.. 15lb usually. The reason I like it is because it's supposedly invisible underwater like fluoro, but floats like mono. Jigs to topwater and everything else I'll throw on this line and it does pretty well for me

12 - 15lb Mono of your choice

Yup, mono or co-polymer.  I normally stick with 12#.  Plenty of good lines.  Some I've tried and liked are Siege, Big Game, Super Natural, McCoy Mean Green and AN40.  Take a tour through the lines that Tackle Warehouse sells.  Have only used one size on one reel so far, but a fellow member that has given me excellent advice many times says Spiderwire Ultracast Ultimate Monofilament is the best mono he has ever used.  Has some memory in larger sizes, but not bad with the lighter sizes he uses on spinning reels.  Lots of people here swear by Yo-Zuri and some of the Seaguar lines.  I also have Cajun Red Cast on a few reels.  Cheap, handles well and haven't had any problems with it yet.

Yo-Zuri Hybrid 10 or 12 lb test... extremely versatile and strong, low

stretch.

I use Sufix siege 12 pound test for all purpose fishing with my Curado 200i

I agree 100% on Sufix Siege in 12 pound test.

I am currently using sunline sniper or berkley 100% flouro on most of my casting rods. the cost is ridiculous.

after you mentioned the high seas grand slam, I decided to give it a try.

it has worked well, so far.  It handles similar to the Sunline. one major advantage is it is much more forgiving on knots.

I plan on using it to replace the more expensive lines as they wear out.

at $7.99 a spool it is hard to beat. It is also available at Walmart.

I use sufix siege in 12lb on my all purpose baitcasting rig. I previously used Trilene xl for years but wanted something more abrasion resistant. I tried siege after reading positive reviews on here and I’m glad I did. It’s strong, more abrasion resistant and still cast great. It’s a little pricier than some other monos but the quality is worth it IMO

It has been a very good handling and consistent line for me. I think one of the biggest complaints fishermen have stem from mysterious break offs with lines. I've broken off with it a few times, but every time it's been those "Well dummy you just drug that jig through the rocks for an hour without retying what did you expect", type moments.  Haven't had any where I just retied and had a good knot and broke a fish off the next cast for no known reason. The price, handling, availability, and knot strength has made it one of my first choices for an all around line recently.

Sufix Siege is the best all around mono I have ever used. I use it on spinning gear too. still casts great. Maybe not as limp as some other lines, but the increased strength and abrasion resistance is worth the trade off IMO.

so far I have had a lot fewer mysterious breakoffs with the high seas, than any flourocarbon I have used.

Can't count the times I have broken off mysteriously with some flourocarbon lines.

from my own experience flourocarbon is great unless you get a kink in the line, then you might as well be using sewing thread.

I have an "all purpose" baitcaster that I take with me when I'm on foot or kayaking, along with a Spinning setup as well. My all purpose baitcaster is a MH/F spooled up with 14lb Trilene. I attach a 14lb fluoro leader when necessary.
