NOCO GEN3 30amp 3-Bank Charger

Hey,

 

 I’m in the market to upgrade my on board battery charger. I’m looking for a 3 bank charger and came across this model. You guys recommend this brand and series, or have any pros and cons? I’m thinking 10amps per bank is plenty fast enough for me as well, but open to suggestions and options.

I have that charger. Has been solid for 3 years. I can recharge my batteries in 12 hrs or less

I have a 2 bank, 20 amp Gen2 Noco. Works great. Ran my batteries down the other week to almost nothing and they were charged up and ready to go fishing the next day (<12 hours).

thanks guys! I’m torn between the GEN3Mini vs 30amp at the moment. more based on size, I don’t have much room to work with in my fuel/battery compartment, but I love the charging speed of the 30amp!

I bought a new boat in the summer of 2016.  It came with a NOCO 4 bank charger.  In less than a year one of the banks went bad.  It was replaced and the new one has been going strong since.

It's 10 amps per battery. 3 banks 10 amps each bank, not 30 amps for 1 battery.

Noco is a compact water proof unit that is very reliable.

Love my 30a 10 x 3. I had the Mini and it took forever to charge the big trolling bats. 30a is big tho

I read somewhere not to put the charger in same compartment as batteries, the gases produced do not mix well with the charger components. I read it on the internet so we all know it's true,,,right?? lol

Every boat I've ever owned had the charger with the batteries.  I've always pitched the lid as a matter of practice, but I know many do not with no ill effects.

I agree J Francho, I do however think its a bad idea to have batteries and gas in the same compartment, just as I know how corrosive the gases are that are produced during charging, but what we gonna do?? LOL

All but one had the gas tank as well.

As does my Tracker,, gas and batteries. I installed the Charger in the compartment just forward of that. Simply because installation access for me was easier. ;=)

Wet cell batteries produce gases while charging and the compartment shouldn't be closed it should be open when charging. AGM's eliminate the fumes when charging, another reason to upgrade, no corrosion issues.

Will the Noco equalize the cells like a Minn Kota Precision charger will?

The NOCO chargers each cell independly to a specific voltage, no idea if it charges more or less voltage to equalizes them. Bad cell is a bad cell, why charge good cells less?

I have the gen 3 mini, I believe it is 4amps per bank.  I has never failed to fully charge up my batteries overnight, although 10a per bank is recommended.

Which do you think is better, NOCO or Dual Pro?

 I bought the 30amp NOCO Genius and it is Massive!  I have no idea where the mechanic is going to install, but it will definitely not fit in the battery/gas compartment on my Tracker. I asked if they have trouble locating a spot to just install it in my rod locker compartment on the floor. Should be more than enough room.
