bitsandbass Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 I went to dicks. They only had the 6’6” MH spinning version, 1/4 - 3/4oz in store. I got to say, the thing felt like a broomstick. I was not impressed. I still have high hopes for the lighter versions of the 6’6 though. I really want to get one of these because of their sub $40 price tag. Just curius if anyone had had any further thoughts on the ugly stik elites. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted May 10, 2018 Super User Posted May 10, 2018 I know nothing of the Elite. Have you considered a Lightning or Lightning Shock? Quote
BrackishBassin Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 That’s what I use for my spinning set up. A 7’ ML Elite with a Penn Fierce II 2000. Works for everything from salt to fresh. I don’t get a broomstick feel from mine, but I also fish a MH GX2 for saltwater stuff. The ML Elite feels like a noodle in comparison to that rod. Quote

Preytorien Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 I remember going to the store to "test" out the GX2 when it first came out. I was moderately impressed due to the fact I had always handled the original Ugly Stik and thought they felt cheap, the GX2 felt a little better. That said, I never approached it thinking I would be overly impressed. The Ugly Stik might be on the lower end of things in terms of price and even some on the build, but the thing is built to be bulletproof and applicable in almost every waters for any fish. BrackishBassin puts his through the ringer I'm sure and it comes back asking for more. I'd say that's a pretty good rod, but not likely something I'm going to approach yet. Quote

I recently bought a bunch of GX2s. They are pretty great for bait and wait for trout. Excellent value at $15 for rod and reel. Anyone else handle the Ugly Stik Elite? Quote
