nik4422 Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 I was looking to get a casting rod for crankbaits. Id mostly be throwing squarebills, lipless, and medium diving crankbaits. Im conflicted because i dont know if I should have a rod with moderate or fast action. Quote
Happybeerbuzz Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 Moderate to moderate fast is my preference. It would have a bit more casting distance and is better for keeping the rod loaded while reeling in the fish. Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 8, 2018 Super User Posted May 8, 2018 It depends on how you fish, shorter under 30 yard accurate target casts you can use the same rods designed for spinnerbaits etc; 6'8" to 7' MH F. longer casts over 30 yards a a longer moderate action 7' to 7'4" MHMF is easier cast. Super User Boomstick Posted May 8, 2018 Super User Posted May 8, 2018 Do you fish from shore mostly? Do you fish any deep divers? How about through grass and stumps? Also do you have a limited number of rods you can carry? These can have an effect on the rod I would suggest. Quote
Super User burrows Posted May 8, 2018 Super User Posted May 8, 2018 Powell endurance glass composite 6’10 is your answer. Quote

I normaly fish from the shore and sometimes from the kayak, but the waters around here arent real deep so i dont throw any deep divers. The max rods ill normally carry is 4 Quote

The max rods ill normally carry is 4 I would probably go with something M/M if most of the water you fish is pretty clear. If you find yourself fishing around a lot of stumps and grass, maybe bump it up to a medium heavy to help pull a fish out, or possibly a M/F, which will give you a nice quick rebound when hitting a square bill off of a stump. blckshirt98 Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 The Phenix X-10 up for sale in the Fishing Flea Market would be perfect. 1 Quote

nik4422 Posted May 8, 2018 Author Posted May 8, 2018 would a moderate-fast taper work? kind of like getting the best of both worlds. if not id probably stick with just moderate because i dont deal with a lot of cover very often Quote
Chance_Taker4 Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 Kistler KLX Feel n Reel. It has a glass tip blended into a graphite blank. You get the best of both worlds. Works great for cranks. Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted May 10, 2018 Super User Posted May 10, 2018 Dobyns Colt is a great rod at a fair price. I got the 7' med/heavy cranking (CL 705CB) for my cranking/jerkbait needs. It has a moderate/fast action. Love it. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Dobyns_Colt_Series_Casting_Rods/descpage-CLTR.html Quote
junyer357 Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 For squarebills and most cranks i prefer a med-mod. I have a pair of 7' med-mod ethos from acadamy i love. For my bigger 5/6xd and medium size cranks i have a 7'2" mh mod fast, that was designed for spinerbaits. Them the big boys 8/10xd and mag squarebills are on a 7'10" mh mod fast. Quote
