WRangler506 Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 I was reading through some threads and need some line for a couple Fuego CTs. One on a Champion crank rod, one on a jig and spinnerbait rod. Sunline super natural mono or yozuri hybrid #12 for the crankbaits? Sunline Sniper FC #12 for the jigs and spinnerbaits? Im looking for middle of the road unless there is a clear winner somewhere. Is 100 yards on a reel enough? I cant ever remember using nearly that much, but the spools are all 200 it looks like. How many yards of #12 are you putting on? Are these good enough, and are easy to manage? I just want something thats good enough, to get ordered quick and start fishing! THanks! Quote
Junger Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 I use 50# PE braid for backing it's like $13 for 500 yards of generic braid on Amazon. I use SniperFC 12# for my spinnerbaits/chatterbait rod and love it. Spool up your reel with the PE full. Then walk out about 75 yards of PE, cut it off, then spool on the SniperFC. Replace the SniperFC as needed. Do the same for the cranks, but maybe 100 yards if you're bombing them. Quote
WRangler506 Posted May 4, 2018 Author Posted May 4, 2018 Whats the point of backing, just for lower cost filler? If I go that route, I dont mind paying for Tatsu if it will do a couple reels per spool that way. Nobody elses uses fishing line lol? Just kidding, Im anxious to get something ordered quick. Quote

Yes, low cost filler. That line will never see the light of day. There are a lot of threads about backing. I use braid because it doesn't have memory, and it weighs less than mono. I have both Tatsu and SniperFC, and I would get which ever one is cheaper, both are very good fluoro lines. If you do a search you can read up on both. 1 Quote
WRangler506 Posted May 4, 2018 Author Posted May 4, 2018 Does anyone know if there is any reason NOT to run a stretchier line for crankbaits like the Sunline super natural mono or INvisix FC? The Mod fast rod should provide enough give, so not sure why people recommended the sunline mono, other than maybe cost. Im going to run Invisix, Sniper, or Tatsu on my jig and do all rod. I do fish lots of rocks, does it just get more nicks to cut off or actually cut off usually? Which one above is easiest to manage? I think that will be what I get. I dont care much about the money, its only $25 vs $40 if the Tatsu is best. Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 4, 2018 Super User Posted May 4, 2018 Middle of the road would be 12# (.014d) Big Game, does everything good at a low cost, Sunline Defier Arnilo 13# (.012d) is a step up in performance and cost. FC line is higher maintenance and cost with lower knot strength. Tom 1 Quote
Beetlebz Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 On my crank rod I use 10# yozuri and on my "other" rig which I use for finesse jigs, big shakey heads, small T rigs, topwater, spinners and chatterbaits I put on 15# big game because it floats for topwater and doesn't stretch much for it's break strength. Some days I consider going down to 12# but the bottom line (no pun intended) is that it hasn't failed me yet. KVD L&L makes it perfectly managable. The high maintenance of FC lines along with the management issues turn me off, imho. I can't speak to the stretch of tatsu to compare it to big game. Quote
Super User Angry John Posted May 5, 2018 Super User Posted May 5, 2018 12 lb YHB is good all around line cheap and handles good. Quote

Does this have less stretch than straight mono, and less abrasion resistance than FC? Is braid to a FC leader ALWAYS better at casting ease and line management VS say all FC? Quote
Super User Angry John Posted May 10, 2018 Super User Posted May 10, 2018 I prefer braid to leader for spinning rods. On casting rods I prefer one line. For most cases that's 12lb yhb. It has decent abrasion resistance good knots and handles decent. Braid is also good in a lot of the same areas but sucks on rip rap. Depending on your setup strait floro in 10 or 12 for cranking can cast plenty far. If you live in an area where the water is very clear and deep it may be your best choice. Every liNE is a compromise. For the money and performance for cranking 10 or 12 yhb is my choice. Quote
bigfruits Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 your choices look good. yo zuri and sniper would be good choices for 2 rods and their intended purposes (never tried the super natural). both very easy to manage on spinning or casting gear. i highly recommend kvd line conditioner. sunline defier for the cranks and tatsu for the jig and spinnerbait rod i could also recommend. for a dedicated jig rod id look at shooter FC or braid with or without leader. WRangler506 Posted May 15, 2018 Author Posted May 15, 2018 I will use the Yozuri hybrid for the crankbait rod. For the other rod, bottom contact, finesse jigs, spinnerbaits and a few other lighter baits, how does Sniper compare to Tatsu? Is there anything that Sniper does better than the Tatsu? Im looking at the 10lb for either one. Quote

Sunline Defier "Armilo"? I was just checking these Defier out and it looks like there are several kinds. Im not sure which everyone is recommending. Quote
bigfruits Posted May 15, 2018 Posted May 15, 2018 i actually use them both. if it will be on a moderate action crank rod, id go with the armilo. a bit less stretch and less supple but more abrasion resistant and is still what i consider a low memory line. check out the graphs in the links below. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-LNESUNLINE.html?from=basres line is a very personal thing, id tell you to try FC (sniper) for the cranks but many will tell you its not worth the hassle. d-camarena Posted May 16, 2018 Posted May 16, 2018 I use braid and big game for everything. Has never failed me Quote
Super User Angry John Posted May 16, 2018 Super User Posted May 16, 2018 If its going to be a dedicated bottom contact rod then using a fluorocarbon may be worth it. Because of the OP's statement about good enough, sniper and pline 100% are the two lines i like that are not supper expensive. They handle almost identical for me so the best deal you can find for the win is what i would buy. Note in some cases the 250 yard spool that pline provides could be a better value as it may fill two or more reels where most others are only 200 yards. Quote
