EGbassing Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Just landed my new PB. Looked to be around 9 lbs. Caught on a black/blue zoom lizard. I've caught more pounds of fish on that thing than on every other lure combined... 1 Quote

EDIT: Allow me to clarify. I lifted most of it's body out of the water, unhooked it, held it up higher to see how big it was, and dropped it back in. A lot of people are saying that it sounds like I hooked a good fish and it came off at the bank or something along those lines. It was a clean catch, and my estimation would be 9 pounds. I also really wasn't thinking about getting a picture. I was pretty stunned. 2 1 Quote

jr231 Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 If you LANDED the bass then you held it... You should have said you didn't have your phone or something lol. Quote

I lipped it, but couldn't get it all the way out of the water. Just enough to get the hook out and drop it back in. If you don't believe me I can show you a picture of my thumb. Nearly ripped it off when I lipped it... And I wouldn't say "I forgot my phone" because I'm not going to lie about it. 1 Quote
jr231 Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 That just sounds ridiculous though bud... How do you know it was 9LBs if you barely touched it ? Quote
BassObsessed Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 Not sure if this is a troll attempt but I'll check back later lol. 4 1 Quote

I didn't barely touch it, I lifted it out of the water enough to see how big it was and dropped it back in. It's simple. Also, I didn't say it was exactly 9.0 pounds, I said "about 9 pounds". It's an estimate. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted May 4, 2018 Super User Posted May 4, 2018 I have to agree, unless you weighed it or got it's measurements, it's just a guess. May be a great guess! But still a guess. 2 Quote

jr231 Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 You just said you couldn't get it all the way out of the water... Even measurements would still only give a rough estimation .. Who catches a bass THAT big and doesn't pull it out of the water.. Bass fisherman live for those moments... Im feeling like you hooked a nice one and lost her at the bank. But hey. It's your story. Tell it how you want. Good luck on your future endeavors 2 Quote
riverbasser Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 Been there and won't make the mistake again. Caught a really good fish probably a PB at the time, didn't have a net so I sat in driver seat and lipped it. Pulled her out the water and she didn't fight. Like a DA I pulled the jig out while the bass was still halfway over the gunwail and she went nuts. Dropped her and Away she went as I watched. Ruined my whole day 1 Quote

Good luck on your future endeavors It looked about the size of the bass in this video, but 2 to 3 inches shorter: http://bassfishingisawesome.com/9-pound-bass-attacks-frog-bait-in-the-air/ I'm sure you won't believe me, based on the fact that you don't believe anything I've said, but I'm not lying. It was 7.5 pounds at the very least, but likely more. 8.5 - 9 would be my honest guess. 1 Quote
Graham Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 Sounds like you caught a really nice fish, if it was a clean enough catch for you to feel like it counts, then count it! Pics are always nice tho 2 Quote

Super User soflabasser Posted May 4, 2018 Super User Posted May 4, 2018 Congratulations on your new personal best bass. Quote
OCdockskipper Posted May 4, 2018 Posted May 4, 2018 EG, congratulations on the new PB. As for the naysayers, pay them no heed. I received the same treatment here a few years back when I caught a bass I estimated to weigh about 30 lbs. It was mid January and I made about a 100 yard cast with a Whopper Plopper. The fish came up from about 40 feet of water, jumped over the lure & then landed on it, so I inadvertently foul hooked her. When I got her to the boat, she was too big to lift and since the foul hooking would invalidate any claims for records, I just unhooked her & let her go. I took a picture of her with my phone before she swam off, but then the next day I was at the airport & the TSA confiscated it. Oddly enough, the TSA agent who took my phone looked exactly like J Francho. 10 Quote

Hey man, I realize there's rain falling on your party, but the bottom line is you caught a monster and you should be proud. You can call it your PB absolutely!! So congrats to that. Honestly. It is unfortunate you'll never know the actual weight but we've ALL been there. My weighed PB is 7.5. But I've caught bigger -- by my best estimation -- though I don't/can't call them my PBs because I never got to get their actual weights as I lost them before I could do so. 1 Quote

The only scale I had with me was the kind that goes through their gills, which is great for fish that you're keeping, but I've heard that it can really damage their gills. (didn't want to take a chance on seeing that beast floating 2 days later...) I'm really considering getting the kind of scale that clips to their lip now. More than likely I'll come across a few more over 5 pounds in the pond I fish. I've caught two 6 pounders in the past month plus the one yesterday, and I know a guy that caught an 8 pounder recently. All of those were caught in that little pond... 1 Quote
