Good locations in NEPA/Pocono mountains

Hi, everyone. First post here.

 

I’m located in the Poconos, Monroe county to be exact. I moved here from New Jersey about 7 years ago, and still am not all that familiar with the local fishing spots. I was born and raised in NJ and knew all the spots like the back of my hand, but unfortunately I haven’t gotten to do as much fishing as I’d like since I moved out here.

 

I always mainly fished the Delaware, but I’m looking for spots that are more kid-friendly. I have a six year old who absolutely loves fishing, but for obvious reasons, it’s difficult to fish the river with her. 

 

I’ve done plenty of fishing at Beltzville and am not a huge fan, to be honest. Recently discovered Mauch Chunk and I love it, but it’s about a 45 minute ride, so I’m looking for more options. Creeks, lakes, whatever will work well with my kid. 

 

Not particularly into trout fishing, so streams and rivers that only really house trout are not my thing.

Check out Gouldsboro State park and Gouldsboro lake. I've heard good things about the panfish fishing there.

Not meaning to thread jack, but we recently got a house near Camelback and are looking for places to fish too. My daughter is 11 yrs old, and I have a small boat (14' porta-bote).

 

Been to Gouldsboro and Tobyhanna, both are decent, we had fun. Caught a 2lb bass at Tobyhanna yesterday, my first there.  Will post a picture if I can figure out how.

If you have a boat try Fairview Lake in Pike County.  Best largemouth and smallmouth fishing in the northeast PA, IMO.  Quality sizes, also.

First you live in a state with more waters than most do. Seriously you have miles and miles of rivers, creeks, streams and parks with lakes in them. I lived near Duncannon for 5 years back in the 90's. I had many miles of the Susqy River, many small lakes and other big lakes to choose from. Having said that, most of them are best accessed with a 15 to 17 foot aluminum jon boat with a 9.9 hp outboard. I am not talking a fancy 20 foot- $50,000 fiberglass dream machine.  Just a simple old jon boat. Yes a fancier rig with a jet is better, but not needed.  Up by you, I have also fished Belltzville and down by reading I fished Blue Marsh. I fished Lake Wallenpaupack too.  Take a few minutes using Google Earth and research your streams and rivers near you as well as a ponds. Consider getting a canoe or jon boat. Kayaks offer great opportunities too.  Down near the town of Duncannon there is a place called Riverfront campgrounds. They rent boats and canoes. You rent them and they transport you upstream and you float and fish your way back down.  Another good source is to check out your local fishing tackle stores. I do not mean Cabelas or Bass Pro, I mean the local shop. They always know the area and share with you opportunities. Just remember to spend a few dollars supporting them. One very good one (not local to you, but very informed) is Susquehanna Fishing Tackle in York,PA.
