Brock_v Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 I have had my shimano curado 201k for a couple of months and have treated it great. Its been paired up with a 7,1 med hyv phenix feather and I haven't throw anything over 1/2 ounce on. Last Friday the last time i used it was buttery smooth and when i took it out on Sunday it was rough and didn't feel the same. When I remove the spool and reel it is smooth and it doesn't feel like when the spool is in. I am very confused I've never had any problems like this ever with my 20+ Shimano reels I was wondering if you guys had any clue to a reason why this would be occurring. Quote
Tim Kelly Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 A loop of line trapped between the spool and the frame? Quote
grub_man Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 A piece of grit in the gears is my guess. When the spool is out, the pinion gear can slide around a bit and pass by the grit easily. With the spool in, the gears are forced to mesh together and the grit won't let the gears mesh properly. Take off the handle side plate, and rotate the gears slowly looking for the grit. Use a soft bristled brush to remove the grit. Close it back up and check things out. If it's more than a few pieces of grit, it might be worth cleaning and regressing the gears. I had a Citica do just this to me a few weeks back. It was laying in the bottom of my work bag and managed to get some grit in the gears. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 It's more likely dirt in the spool race or on the lip. Swab it all and see if that helps before you start opening it up. some of the new Shimano's are finicky. I like the E series better personally. Quote
