I have googled the heck out of this, I can only find posts regarding a loud grinding noise, my noise is a sloppy low pitched squeal.

Got my new Tatula SV in the mail yesterday, took it out for a cruise today (in the rain, of course). On the cast it makes a noise like the spool is sloppy and makes a bit of a squeal. The interesting thing is it absolutely bombs lures smooth as silk so I don't think the spool is hitting the frame or anything. The brakes work like a dream too. On setting 7 with a big squarebill I could handily outcast my casitas by a foot or two (though with dramatically lighter line). I didn't get a chance to throw anything light weight today because of the wind but yeah, except for that noise the reel is a champ.

I'm hoping the rain washed some junk into the sideplate is all. I'm about to take it partially down and clean / oil it well.

Thoughts?

I had a similar noise when I first took out my tatula SV this spring - the only thing I could find online was reports of reels "grinding", but like your experience it wasn't really a grinding noise and the reel itself still performs smoothly.

I oiled it up, but unfortunately have been stuck doing things around the house and haven't been able to even get to a pond to see if that helped the noise or not

I'm interested to see if anybody else had similar experiences too

It's common on centrifugal reels and can be remedied with a little oil. Since your reel is magnetic, it's a pretty sure bet that it's a bearing. Flushing and reoiling should help. If not, they made need replaced.

The reel was brand new... it did this out of the box. I lightly oiled both bearings with Penn bearing oil but I can't get out until tomorrow to see if it worked. I'll keep y'all posted

Is the tension set really loose? I've seen reels make a bit of noise when the tension knob was set very loose. Can't remember the reason off the top of my head, but I have a Curado E5 that does that.

Oil fixed it. I put a drop of Penn bearing oil under the spool tension cap and then I added one more drop on the side plate bearing and spun it in good with a Q-tip so there wouldn't be any excess to get into the brakes. I just got back from the reservoir and it's quiet as a church mouse!

So update to the update. I tried swapping the sideplate bearing with one out of a spare abu I had laying around. Spins a ton better, but i doubt it'll translate to longer casts. I got a new Fuego and it's dramatically quieter than the tat SV, even after the bearing swap.

I watched a tatula SV video from reel test (not a big fan, but sometimes informative) and his makes the same noise. I'm thinking it's just the SV spool. It still casts just fine so... who knows. It works for me I guess

Found this thread after encountering the same problem on my Tatula SV, oil under the tension cap and spool bearing. The noise is gone.

I have 2 Tatula SVs. One is arguably the smoothest reel I own, and the other always had a little click from the day it was new. So this year, I had some weed slime getting on the bar in the reel, took a qtip and cleaned it as best I could without taking much of the reel apart, then oiled the spool and the click is completely gone. It still has less tension when reeling than my other one, but that isn't really a problem.
