So I always use 15# PP braid. Decided to get a 1500 yard spool and got the yellow Slick 8.

Does the slick 8 float more than the standard? Using my usual 1/8 oz jig with a three foot 10# flouro leader, it seems harder to feel the bottom and the bait falls slower and swings at me. I hate it!

Do I just use a heavier weight (3/16?)?

Ty.

Personally I despise slick 8. Many love it, and I hope you do too, but the batch I got (also yellow 15#) would have the strands separate, and cause wind knots almost every cast. I can't speak to floating more, and I can't remember if they coat slick 8 in anything but if they do I imagine that would keep water out a bit and increase bouyancy.

i as well have dealt with the strands seperating ive had it happen with sufix 832 too. i have friends who love the stuff but i'll stick to original power pro.

If I want an 8 carrier I normally go with 832. I prefer original to slick 8 for the Power Pro brand.

I've used original PowerPro, PowerPro Slick 8, and Suffix 832. I've used them all in both 10lbs and 30lbs test. The PP 10# and 30# are great lines with 30# being a go to getting fish out of pads. As a bank fisher and someone looking to get that extra edge with casting distance, I tried 8 carrier braid. PPS8 in 30# worked well, but the 10# had significant issues with the wind and weightless/ultralight tackle. The 10# PPS8 is the only line that I've had problems with line twist and wind knots. I've thrown the same tackle and in worse wind conditions on PP and 832 without any problems. PP and 832 weave seems to be more round, whereas the PPS8 especially in 10# seems to be more of a flat weave. Its the only thing I can think that would cause the issues.

The Slick8 on a windy day will drive you absolutely insane and ruin your day of fishing.  I replaced any and all Slick8 with either regular PowerPro or 832.

Try out Daiwa J braid x8 for an affordable 8 carrier braid that works well. I’m a big sufix 832 fan and have been very impressed with the x8 so far. When fishing it side by side with 832 I can’t tell a difference.

I've ditched 832 in favor of J braid 8 carrier.  Cheap too.

Yeah, same here. Any new braid purchases have been x8. Still have a few spools lined with 832 though. I should just invest in a bulk spool since #30 is my go to 90% of the time.

I found the power pro super slick to fray and go fuzzy mid season. I've used the regular pp with success but trying out the maxcurato this year. Feels like the regular with a coating or something but has a thinner diameter.

Wow. Lots of love for SS8 :)

I'll actually admit I like it over regular PP these

days.

Bought a 1500 yard spool of 15# a couple years ago

and have been really enjoying it on almost all my

spinning reels thus far.

Wind knots have been about the same for me as

compared to regular.

I say don't sweat it. It's good line and I've got a lot

to use up over the coming years!

My main prob with th Slick8 15# was when using slow sinking baits like a NED or weightless Stick. It seems to float more and really slows the fall too much. I will try a lil longer leader bot I dont like it when the knot goes to the reel.

I wanted to like it. I mean after all, what should be better on my Shimano reels than braid manufactured under the Shimano name? :)
