The only reason I mention the 'flat craw' it's the closest lure I have to the shape of the horny toads but much smaller.  Regarding the horny toads should I be rigging them on a jig?  Dumb question but I've found conflicting answers and wanted everyone elses opinion.  Thanks for biting.

I used a keel weighted swimbait hook with a screwloc for my horny toads.  One with just enough weight like 1/16-1/8oz to flip them back over so the hook point is facing up.  I think the ones I've been using lately are like 4/0 VMC hooks.

For the Horny Toad I always rig them on a 5/0 EWG hook and weightless. Had a friend show me a trick where he would add a red bead. For the life of me I am not sure what this was for other than possibly to help "catch" any weeds or what not there rather than on the bait.

Another way to rig them is to put them on a swimjig as a trailer. Absolutely money at times!

As mentioned Texas rigging Horny Toad are pretty much standard operating procedure.

You can of course use them as a jig trailer, they are quite productive.

I have used the double hook with screw in pin.  I think mine were Ribbit brand from Academy.  They are a bit heavy and $$, but work well and always work upright.  I have had EWG hooks flip over, but not sure how much that matters.

screw lock thing owner wide gap, 4/0 or 5/0 on toads. "flat craws" (I'm assuming you mean beaver/pit boss type baits) straight worm hook.

I generally rig them weightless with 5/0 EWG hooks.
