Buffdaddy54 Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 I asked this question years ago and want to get an update. Is there an appreciable loss in feel by using a 2 piece rod instead of a 1 piece? I bank fish and like to keep a rod or 2 in my car for convenience sake and it's easier to do it with a 2 piece, it's also easier to stow out of site. Quote
TylerT123 Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 I’ve heard that if you buy a higher end rod, there’s a much smaller difference between a one and two piece. Quote
LCG Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 I have both one piece and two piece rods. I generally prefer one piece rods because they are stronger, never come apart or twist, and easier to keep rigged up (hate when the line gets all tangles after breaking down the two piece rods when rigged up). My two piece rods are sensitive. I use them when traveling with family or when I want them hidden in the trunk. But given the choice, I use the one piece rods. Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted April 26, 2018 Super User Posted April 26, 2018 Years ago, 2 PC rods were worse. Now, the way they are made you should be fine. I prefer 1 PC, but use some 2 PC also. Quote
bish0p Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 Using current materials and manufacturing, ferrule design has greatly improved. Multi-piece fly rods from the 1980's casted and felt different from the single piece rods - they felt "dead". The ferrule on current two piece rods are very good, and hard to distinguish compared to the single piece rods. 1 Quote
BuzzHudson19c Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 I have both one and two piece rods for spinning reels. Not a ton of difference but I use them for different things. The two piece is a 6'6 I like for plastics and the one piece is a 7' for jerkbaits. All my casting rods are one piece. I could see a 2 part casting rod being a detriment. Quote
Yudo1 Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 I don't think there is much of a difference in sensitivity. Most of my rods are one piece, but I do have a few two piece rods that I keep in the car. Quote
Graham Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 I sometimes forget my two piece rod even is one. Quote
