SGT Rico Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Hey dudes! I am about to modify a that mold, and I have the shank part figured out, but I am not sure how I am going to tackle the hook eye part of the mold, any suggestions? The hook I am going to use is the VMC 7217 4/0 30 degree hook. I am going to try to modify the 1/4 oz first to fit the Mustad 32886 4/0 hook and if I am successful, I am going to "modify" the 3/8oz and 1/2oz. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Quote
SGT Rico Posted April 26, 2018 Author Posted April 26, 2018 There’s definitely some improvements to be made on my mold modifications, but I don’t think it turned out to bad. That’s. 1/4 oz with a 4/0 heavy wire VMC hook. I am taking the mold to a local machine shop, to see if they can tweak the 3/8oz slot for me. Quote
SGT Rico Posted April 27, 2018 Author Posted April 27, 2018 Got my molds back from the machine shop. Poured some, and all was good. I’ll post some picks of the completed product in a few. 2 Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted April 27, 2018 Super User Posted April 27, 2018 Not bad, but I do have 1 critique. That top picture, the hook is off center, it doesn't look like a big deal but with a jig that size with a heavy hook it may not perform well. I modified a lot of molds and I can tell you that what will happen with lighter weight heads when the hook is off center. What you will find is the jig will want to fall over on its side, the same side to hook is positioned. If it is a swim jig it will want to lean to the point you will need to thread your trailer on off center to compensate. The good thing is it looks like you have room to fix it, I'd have the machine shop measure the depth and even each cavity out so that the hook will sit in the center. Quote

The jigs that are painted where done with the new improvements. The machine shop did my 3/8 slot, and it turned out great. Thanks Smalljaw67 for the adivce! These are the one cut by the machine shop. SGT Rico Posted April 27, 2018 Author Posted April 27, 2018 Got these done this morning. The weedguard is jacked up in this one, but I did fix it on the others. 2 Quote

Porkrind Posted May 7, 2018 Posted May 7, 2018 Where are you getting the clear weed guards from? I’ve got some jigs to make and seen these so I might give the clear guards a try. Great looking job by the way. 1 Quote

KenP Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 That modification looks great. I've never modified any of mine. What tweaks did you need to do to get the different hooks to fit? Quote

He was done in about 15-20 minutes. Quote
