blanked Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 and where? next to the drivers seat or next to the trolling motor or both. what are your likes and dislikes Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted October 6, 2007 Super User Posted October 6, 2007 I have had all manner of depthfinders on my boats over the years. Everytime I can afford it I do an upgrade. I have found that I get more use and pleasure out of them as I have increased the number of pixels. I just upgraded this summer to two color gps/depthfinder units (Lowrance 520c) and have them networked. I like them better than any other units I have ever owned. I can't see myself ever going back to black and white. I have one on the console with a transducer in the back next to the drain plug hole. The other one is in the bow with a transducer on the trolling motor and a transducer midboat slanted toward the bow and starboard console. Quote
fishingfourfun Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 I have two color Lowrance units. One is located at the drivers seat while the other one is mounted near the trolling motor. The one at the drivers seat is a 68C? (small one with GPS). Quote
acar555 Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 It's Humminbirds for me. They are putting out a better product than the competition right now. I run a 997c and console and a 787c2 on the trolling motor. Their products at the same price points of Lowrance offer more resolution, more power and dual beam transducers. They are much more user friendly and networkable. If you start using the side imaging units (997c) they will absolutely change the way you use electronics for fishing. If you are looking for the best, do your homework like I did and you will see why I went with Humminbird. Quote
blanked Posted October 6, 2007 Author Posted October 6, 2007 the reason i ask is i have a lowrance X52 up front and a lowrance flasher at the driver console. i want to know what i am missing. i dont want something that is just a bunch of bells and whistes and will take me 3 months to learn how to use it. i want something that is going to be easy to read and understand without all the xtras that i will probably never use. i have a seperate hand held GPS. I believe in KISS! keep it simple stupid. also how do you know what your getting unless you see the unit in action? i really liked how the Hummingbird side image show on TV shows it being put to use. but thats the only one i have seen in action . HPBB Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 Humminbird Matrix 87C TM, and Humminbird 787c on the dash. The Matrix 87C and the 787C are almost the same unit, just a year apart in age. Both color fishingfinder/GPS mapping with cards. I will be adding the "interlink" in the future so they can be networked together to share info Quote
ThomasL Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 I recently bought a new xpress that has a lowrance x51 flush mounted in the dash which only has room for one that size or something like a x68 color but still the small 4" screen,i do wish they would widen the hole size and place a 5" screen if they intend to install indash units, nothing up front as of now. :-/ Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted October 19, 2007 Super User Posted October 19, 2007 I have three hummingbirds and a Garmin GPS. I will not go back to the Lowarance. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted October 20, 2007 Super User Posted October 20, 2007 The Humminbird with side imaging tech looks very cool. By the time I get my next boat it should be in its next generation I assume, so i may switch over to Humminbird as well. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted October 21, 2007 Super User Posted October 21, 2007 I heard report form a couple of fishing pros that the side-scan feature is such a pain in the butt to use that it is almost worthless. It seems that almost continual adjustment is necessary. I think I'll wait a couple of years before investing in this technology. Quote
The Next KVD Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 I have a Lowrance LMS 334c on a RAM mount on the consol and a Vexilar FL-18 up front. Quote
acar555 Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 The Humminbird side imaging is no more difficult to use than any other sonar. It is already in it's second generation. If you ever have the chance to use one you will see. The simulation that runs on the unit in the stores does not do the unit enough justice. It is absolutely amazing. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 what kind of electronics on your boat and where? Headlamp-on my head Fujifilm s5200-Usually in my hand, pointed at Dirk or Tin2win,lol Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted October 21, 2007 Super User Posted October 21, 2007 LBH, you neglected to mention that that is the same gear you also wear when you go out on your window peeping expeditions. ;D ;D ;D Quote
Cory20 Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Oh Long Mike, what wit!! I take it all LBH models come preprogrammed with detailed contour maps and hot spot information? Quote
