bassin is addicting Posted April 23, 2018 Posted April 23, 2018 i am looking to replace trebles of some of my crank baits. I do not have enough of the 2Xshort EWG's to replace both trebles on each one... so....if I was going to leave one of the originals on......would you put the 2Xshort EWG on the front or back of the crank bait? specifically 1.5 & 2.5 square bills thanks.. 1 Quote
KDW96 Posted April 23, 2018 Posted April 23, 2018 Personally, id put them on the back. For those fish swipping at the bait. but thats just me. Quote
Super User Log Catcher Posted April 23, 2018 Super User Posted April 23, 2018 If your back hooks are good I would put them on the front. I believe you be less likely to get hung up. 1 Quote

Super User smalljaw67 Posted April 24, 2018 Super User Posted April 24, 2018 Go on the front. EWG hooks excel at holding fish when hooked because of the wide gap and the hook point facing in making them harder to throw. The drawback is they don't hook fish that are swiping at the bait as well as a round bend does so you will want the round bend on the back which is where a fish just swiping at the bait usually gets it. 2 Quote

This ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I have gone away from using EWG trebles on things like jerkbaits, and lipless cranks in cold water where fish are not as aggressive and swipe at baits. I still run EWG's on my squarebills and deeper diving cranks, because IMHO, they come through cover better. I have not experiment with mixing the two styles on the same bait. Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted April 24, 2018 Super User Posted April 24, 2018 Neither I refuse to throw any crankbait with an EWG hook on it. Have replaced them all on every bait they came on. That said, if you're going to use them, I'd agree with the reasoning above of putting them on the front. Quote
