I put my 15 inch bass largemouth in my pond in the backyard, the pond already had some bluegill in it. It has a lot of big rock hides with deep long holes in it. Today I couldn't find him, I even poked all the holes and he didnt come out. just wondering if you fishermen know whats going on? thanks

Bass rarely go into a dead end hole, catfish will.

Do you have any predators like herons or raccoons in the area?

15" bass needs lots of prey to feed on, how are you feeding your pet?

Welcome aboard!

Can't really help with regard to your "pet" bass,

but @WRB is right, predators likely to blame...

Hey thanks, I had him for many years since he was around 6 inch. he grew too big thats why i put him in the pond. no predators near by I live in southern california so if there is raccoon it will get wiped out by city right the way. it is not dead end holes it goes through. I feed him crawfish all the time and small fish

I live in SoCal and raccoons are common. Raccoons are nuacturnal animals and adaptable to city life.

Try tossing a hand full of feeder goldfish in the pond, if the bass is around it will show up.

It is.

Prehistoric, even.

...Not mine, but I know the guy who caught it, and I love sharing the picture.

It's my favorite, "My fish eat your fish!" picture...;)

Is that juvenile of me?  You bet!

I would put up fliers. Pray he didn't get hit by a car. Have you checked the animal shelter?

Reminds me of a local gag sign someone posted around town where I live...

A 5 lb. squirrel actually sounds a bit frightening.

You've never seen Jeremy Wade on River Monsters on Discovery Channel or Animal Planet? You should really check it out.

A friend of mine has a backyard pond (maybe the size of half a football field) and it's  loaded with very aggressive albino catfish, small bluegilll, and bass that don't grow over 12 inches. I think the big catfish are eating everything because the Catfish are up to 14lbs. Not sure if this is common but could it be possible ?
