Peter Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 So there’s a creek near my house that I’ve gone to 2 times now. It’s not real big but there’s bass in it. Ive seen lots of bass in the 1-2 pound range but none bigger than that. The problem is it’s really pressured and I can’t get them to bite anything. Senkos, grubs, small jerks and cranks,in-line spinners-I’ve thrown like everything I can think of at them but nothing-no response they just swim away. Is there anything I can do to get them to bite? 1 Quote
J.Vincent Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 What part of the country? And what type of creek are we talking about ? Quote

I’d say average depth in the creek where I fish is 1 to 3 ft. Pretty clear water. 3-4 ft visibility. Quote
frosty Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 Do they ever look at you before they swim away? Sounds like maybe they can see you. I’d try casting a Ned rig upstream and let the current bounce it through them, works great on the creek I fish. 1 Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted April 20, 2018 Super User Posted April 20, 2018 Have had this happen to me also...have taken a three inch dinger or senko.....no weight on 6# line and fished early or late in day....worked for me...hope it helps. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted April 20, 2018 Super User Posted April 20, 2018 Try to be stealthy . Bass do get shy . If you see the fish you know where they are . Next time stay low , use lighter line just try not to be seen . Quote
Peter Posted April 20, 2018 Author Posted April 20, 2018 I was using 6 pound test already so I’m not sure I’ll go lighter than that. I might try wearing camo on my next trip there? 1 Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted April 20, 2018 Super User Posted April 20, 2018 Ned rig maybe. I like to really downsize in a creek. Their prey usually is very small. Try a crappie tube jig or a curly tail grub. They also like the tiny Rebel craw crankbaits, Crickhopper and Junebug. A regular size Beetle Spin is a good option as well. The smallest size Pop R, perhaps. Honestly, you'll probably catch more of them using bream tactics. Cork and worm or cricket. Try to wade upstream to them because they'll face upstream naturally. Make your presentation running with current. If you have a flyrod, the bream size popping bugs and tiny frogs might be good too. 1 Quote
Armtx77 Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 I do a lot of wade and bank fishing. Im assuming you are either bank or wading this creek? What color clothes are you wearing? Are you using the sun to your advantage by not casting a shadow on the water? Are you fishing upstream or at the least a 45 degree angle? So there are some questions to be answered. A couple of tips: -Ask other fisherman what they are using. I lie to everyone and tell them there is not a fish in this river, unless they see me with a fish and THAN come ask me. Cat is out of the bag at that point. -I wear light blue shirts when it is sunny. Grey when cloudy and while there is no evidence this helps catch fish, it gives me confidence that I am trying to blend into THEIR enviroment. -I try to cast from the shawdows as often as I can. Again, blending in. -Always cast up stream and work back with the lures...ALWAYS. -Current and lure size, can play a critical factor. If your lure is too light, you may not be in the right zone to catch them. Change up the weight, but use the same lure(plastics are the easiest to do this with) Be patient. I have a city "lagoon" a 1/4 mile from my house here in Metairie LA. I got skunked the 1st, 5 or 6 times I went. THREW everything I had at them...nothing. I saw guys catch fish, not many, but they were there. I can now go to that little lagoon on any given day and pull 3 to 4 LB in the 10-18 inch range. I went to 1/16th oz lures and it did the trick. Be paitent, keep grinding and when you crack the code, it will be glorious. 1 Quote
All about da bass Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 Be a bass ninja, gotta be finesse. When you creep to where the bass are throw that wacky rigged senko in there and shake it a few.... Quote
