Super User .dsaavedra. Posted June 22, 2007 Super User Posted June 22, 2007 well im not really sure how to fish frogs in this kind of stuff....a majority of the lake is like this, only in most places the lily pads are in sparse clumps. but these are the kind of lily pads that lay flat on the water and overlap, so i dont know how to fish a frog on them!!! what would you guys reccomend? rebelbasspro Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 Have u ever seen any bass blow up in the pads? From what I can see they are just too dense to fish anything on top of these pads. However you can always fish the edges. Do you hear frogs while your fishing? If there is a LOT of frogs present around the lake I would try a frog on the edges. If not I would go with an imitator of the most dominant forage. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted June 23, 2007 Author Super User Posted June 23, 2007 nope ive never seen any bass blow up in there. i thought they were too dense also but i wanted to know what you guys thought. i have tried fishing around the bank edges (theres about a foot of clear water before the pads start...visible in the photograph) with no success. i love to fish senkos around the edges though...i get LOTS of bass doin that. i also hear lots of frogs croaking, but none in the water... gues this just isnt the place to fish a frog? The Next KVD Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 I DEMAND THAT U FISH EVERYTHING!!!!! Bass can feel everything around them. When ur frog is walking across those pads the pads vibrate which transfers down into the water. If a fish is underneath ur lure as its walking across the pads they'll follow it to where the pads become thinner, comes to an opening, or to the edge of the pads in which they will DESTROY KERMIT!! The only thing is that u better cast the frog w/in 6-12 inches of ur last cast. U must be very through with this style. But it is worth it! At any moment u can catch a real pig. My personal best on a frog is a 7.3 lbs. This is HUGE in Minnesota seeing as how our state record is 8lbs 15oz. It may take all day but when u get a bite it'll be 3lbs and up! Also if a fish blows up but doesn't connect w/ the frog make sure to have a followup bait like a senko or jig. I've also throw the frog back to the same spot a couple of times before I give up. Have fun w/ Kermit. Good luck! 8-) Quote
basscat73 Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 Hard to tell, but it seems like you could fish a frog through that. It's a little denser than preferable, but give it a good try before you give up. Throw past openings (if there are any?!) and work the frog though it. Do it on a real sunny day because the bass will bury into that stuff. If those pads move around pretty easily when you work the frog through, then just try to pause when are an opens up a bit. When the frog pops off the edge of a pad, that's when a bass will smack it. Try to work the lure in different ways to see what works. Do you have any idea of the depth underneath the pads? Also, if bass are in there, then you should be able to kill them with a weighted worm! Throw it up on a pad, then slowly drag it off the edge of the pad and let it sink down. You can pick that area apart doing that. Quote
fisherboy Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 dude. thats awsome frog territory. throw my favorite. the sizmic frog. texas rig it weightless with a 4/0 hook and just keep reeling. just fast enough for the legs to kick. i reccomend watermellon or brown on top chartruese on bott and black. these should do the trick. goodluck Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted June 23, 2007 Author Super User Posted June 23, 2007 ok thanks for the advice. there are a few holes and stuff in the pads. next time i'll just guid my frogs into them holes.or maybe i'll pitch a snko in those holes and stuff.....i wanna take a dropshot rig w/ a senko and just punch thru those lilies so i can fish my senko right underneath them. could i fish a 10" culprit worm on top those lilies like a snake and let its tail dangle down in any holes and stuff? you think that would be effective? LooksLikeSinbad Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 I would definitely try fishing a frog through there. Just because it's dense at the surface doesn't mean that the bass can't move around underneath. I would fish a plastic frog as slow as possible while still creating a buzz/turbulence from the legs.
