I've looked into this quite a bit and heard a good amount of belief that geese can be scared off with a green laser pointer. Not red. Just green (532nM). Somehow they see the green wavelength well, and to them, it seems like the super bright green dot headed their way just freaks them out. Apparently golf courses have known about this for some time.

I bought a dollar-store green laser last fall and tried it, but it lacked power.

My 250mW green laser just arrived Monday. It can light matches and melt plastic. Has a range of 5000m. It also seems to be very bright even in full sun daylight.

I'm just waiting until I get some time this weekend to fish, and of course try it out on the geese.  :)

Yeah, I'm still going with the old boot. It's free and more enjoyable.

I’ve seen a lot of subdivisions putting up silhouettes of coyotes around ponds. Some places it seems to work, others the geese are hanging out with the coyotes

I was able to get out a little bit last night for some fishing......and testing.

I can confirm if you're looking to get the geese out of your way while you're fishing, the green laser definitely works.

Even in broad daylight the laser was so effective that I essentially "herded" about 4 of them from a position about 25 feet from me to completely across the lake, and they did it very quickly. The laser absolutely freaks them out.

According to our DNR recommendations the laser usually doesn't scare them off once and do the trick the rest of the year, you have to keep harassing them (which is legal in our state), and maybe they'll reconsider nesting or living on that body of water, but it's pretty unlikely. The laser is only to get them out of my way while I'm fishing so I don't have to constantly watch my back.

But for the record, the green laser is highly effective.

Really appreciate this info. I don't care what the other guys say, there's just something that sticks in my head and takes my mind off fishing when a big, stupid bird comes after me. I'll be glad when it warms up and I can get back in the creeks. Snakes just get out of the way.

Anybody else find it slightly funny that we have a 3 page long thread of how terrified we are of a bird (I will admit when I hear something behind me and turn around and see a goose about to eat me I almost wet myself)

I am scared of birds. I had a big Tom turkey starting trouble with my daughter when she was young, all I could do was push her behind me and hope he thought I was a bear! Thankfully I didn’t look like an appetizing meal to him!

Message me if anyone wants any good recipes.. I've got a few..

I've got one.  My Grandpa gave it to me years ago before he died.

1) Cook the goose in the oven with cow manure.

2) Eat the cow manure.

3) Throw away the goose.

I love it when there are lots of geese on the lake. Just throw a green pumpkin TRD near the flock and you'll catch every bass in the lake, along with bonus other fish. Match the craps.

I'm almost positive I've seen a guy decapitate a goose with a good club somewhere on the internet.

I can see taking one out for coming after you, but killing one just to kill it is just a jackass move. I completely agree with self defense, but I completely disagree with killing something just to kill it.

Same here unless you're hunting.

But spiders need to die just because. With napalm.

Hunting serves a purpose as far I’m concerned. I’ve got no issues with that.

Ditto...and I've been a hunter since the early 70s...

I'm starting to think I've created a monster with this topic. Had no idea it would go this long.

I'd carry 1/2 a broom handle if I went where yard carp are hanging out.  They only charge at me 1 time.

Yard carp hahaha!

I just act like they aren’t there. In my experience they are more bark than bite. My biggest problem with them is they turn some of my fishing holes into there personal restroom. It’s ok, I have a pair of shoes designated for these spots!

If you could share where you got that laser and which one it was, that'd be great.
