McDink Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 Ok guys and gals, Last year I really got into jerkbait fishing. Had some factory hook issues and found Owner ST-36 round bends that I have became very happy with. Subsequently now I have a lot of faith in the brand and would like to keep my hooks coming from the same place. my question today is in regard to 3 different baits. Strike King squarebill KVD 1.5 with factory #4 round bends, Strike King 3/8oz Red Eye Shad with factory round bend #4, and Rapala DT10 with factory short shank #4 round bend. It looks to me like I might like the Owner ST-35 with short shank and 150 degree point position as a great all around hook upgrade for all of the previously listed baits. Has anyone used this exact hook on the previously mentioned baits? If so what sizes did you run on them? Did they hinder any action? Worth the money?? I have also read good things about the ST-41, but am finding conflicting information. Certain websites claim the ST-41 is a short shank and others don’t say that. Does anyone have first hand experience with the ST-41? Are they in fact a short shank hook? thanks in advance. Quote
evilcatfish Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 I'd say the 41 is a medium shank if that helps at all? It's not as long as the shank on many hooks, but definitely not as short as hooks marketed " short shank." Either way, the 41 is an excellent hook 1 Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted April 16, 2018 Super User Posted April 16, 2018 35's make for a great front hook, because of how spread apart the two points are that face the body. Plus they don't foul up on the back hook or bill as much because of the short shank. The 36 is a great back hook and all around hook. My absolute favorite treble out there. The 41 is the 36, but it's a beefier 2x strong version. 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted April 16, 2018 Super User Posted April 16, 2018 Like @fishballer06 ~ I love that 35 - use it on several baits (again, makes a great front hook) for jerkbaits, squarebill & deeper cranks, as well as topwater baits; as long as the hook hanger is 'in line' with the bait. My other top jerkbait hooks, depending on the bait, are the Mustad KVD short shank Triple grip and the Gamakatsu Magic Eye. Both super stout & plenty sticky. A-Jay Quote
Super User NHBull Posted April 16, 2018 Super User Posted April 16, 2018 I replaced a ton of trebles last yr with the 35's.....excellent front and back Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted April 16, 2018 Super User Posted April 16, 2018 I loooove the st-36's, but if you are looking for a shorter shank the 35's might be a good choice. I haven't used those yet but plan to try them. Also important to note on the st-41's is that the hook point are tilted inwards a bit, in contrast to the true round bend of the 36. Some like it, some don't. Quote
Super User Angry John Posted April 17, 2018 Super User Posted April 17, 2018 The st-41 is my top water hook of choice. They just seem to get a death grip on the fish. Going to test the larger versions on some glides, more info to come. Quote
McDink Posted April 17, 2018 Author Posted April 17, 2018 Really appreciate the input everyone!! I’ve searched high and low,...just can’t seem to find a lot of reviews pertaining to 35’s or 41’s. I’ve gotten more useful info here in just one post lol. tons of info out there on 36’s, and I had great success with those last year. I wish Owner put the 35’s and the 41’s in bulk pro packs like they do for the 36’s Quote
