RPreeb Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 Was just surfing through Amazon and came across this Arbogast Buzz Plug. Funny looking thing - wondered if anyone has tried it? It comes in most of the same color patterns as their Hula Poppers. With the up oriented double hook, it's supposed to be more weedless than most hard baits. Just curious. Another thing I noticed... sure are a lot of Chinese soft frog knock-offs. Or a 43 piece bait set for $43.... gotta be some must have lures. Quote
Super User tcbass Posted April 16, 2018 Super User Posted April 16, 2018 We've tried it. It works ok....because of the way it's built it pulls up, would have been better the back was on the waterside. Caught a few bass with it. Really use the Whopper Plopper and homemade Teckel Sprinker frog for topwater now. If those don't work......well, then I'll try other stuff but that's rare. Quote
georgeyew Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 The wide butt seems to stop the stock hook from doing its job. I swapped it out with a big treble hook and it seems to do better. The wires are a bit thin for my liking on the smaller 5/8 version. Quote
papajoe222 Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 I have one and caught a number of fish on it last summer/fall. I didn't have any hook-up issues, but I fished it fairly slow with a lot of pauses, so that double hook was likely hanging down on the hits. Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted April 16, 2018 Super User Posted April 16, 2018 I got one a few years ago. I have also had hook-up problems with it, and have found it only marginally more weedless than a trebled topwater. Between frogs, toads, buzzbaits, and the whopper plopper, I can't think of any situation where the Buzz Plug would be a better option than something else I have, so I don't really use it anymore. 1 Quote
