Super User Darren. Posted April 15, 2018 Super User Posted April 15, 2018 Been in bloom since Friday here on the Peninsula. Some, not all. I've got one that's a little behind the rest. Hope to get out some time during the week. 1 Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted April 15, 2018 Super User Posted April 15, 2018 Dogwood in my yard is full bloom as well! I stopped by a neighborhood private lake from shore on Friday and caught my new PB! 6.54lbs on a spinnerbait! I also got another bass about half that size on a chatterbait. 2 Quote

Man congrats @MassYak85, I caught a few on a spinnerbait. But nothing on the chatterbait. They was mostly hitting the rattletrap and square bill crankbait for me. Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted April 16, 2018 Super User Posted April 16, 2018 They are moving in on the Potomac. This was Saturday. 1 1 Quote
Black Bill Dance Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 Beautiful fish @TOXIC, you did a lot better than me. The big boys just wouldn't take my line Saturday 1 Quote

That one crushed my old PB by over a pound. Quote
lenchantin1 Posted April 17, 2018 Posted April 17, 2018 I'm headed down that way this weekend (to fish the Chickahominy). These temperatures are a bit cold for this time of year. Do any of you think it will cause the bass fishing to be tougher? Quote

Of course, if they are on their beds they may not be feeding this weekend. Are you going to the dam area? Quote
lenchantin1 Posted April 17, 2018 Posted April 17, 2018 No specific plans to go to the dam area, but may end up there. Do you recommend that area? What is best strategy for bass on beds? I'm guessing soft baits like lizards, but not sure. Thanks Quote

What is best strategy for bass on beds? I'm guessing soft baits like lizards, but not sure. Thanks The dam area seems to have the bigger bass. You have to see the beds and then aggravate the males to bite. Use lizards or trick worms or Senkos to aggravate the bass. The males will pick up your baits and move them out of the beds. As for the females, they will be holding to cover in the sun, if possible, resting after the spawn. Just remember, the spawn can last for 60-days depending on which bass start to spawn during the spawning season early or late. Not all bass are on their nests now, but will be in the future. Take your time and look for the "white patches" on the bottom to find the beds. Good luck. Quote
lenchantin1 Posted April 18, 2018 Posted April 18, 2018 Sounds like great advise. I appreciate it. Quote
Graham Posted April 18, 2018 Posted April 18, 2018 Hopefully gonna put the yak in at the Powhatan Wildlife Management Area this weekend, I’ll keep my eyes out for some bedding bass. Hoping for a new PB, wish me luck! Quote

Super User TOXIC Posted April 18, 2018 Super User Posted April 18, 2018 Be careful out there in any of the rivers or streams. The recent rain has them all flowing really, really high and there's a LOT of debris flowing. Some big TX's on the Potomac this weekend and I'll be right back out there in the chocolate milk. Quote
Tonykoch Posted April 18, 2018 Posted April 18, 2018 Yeah, I have a few friends that have been tearing up some bass with size to them recently. 5-7 pounders being pulled out of smaller ponds and lakes with spinnerbaits and wacky worms in shallow water. 1 Quote
lenchantin1 Posted April 26, 2018 Posted April 26, 2018 Fished the Chickahominy last weekend and the fishing was tough for everyone. They had a big tournament there over the weekend and the mornings were in the high 30's temps. Our boat caught four fish all weekend. We decided to try live bait and that made up for two of the four fish. One was a heavy sow bass at around 8 lbs. That was a nice highlight. 1 Quote
Black Bill Dance Posted March 26, 2019 Posted March 26, 2019 Hey guys...have any of you seen any bass on beds as of yet? We suppose to have a really good 4-day break in the weather this weekend, what game plan have you all put in place? Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted March 27, 2019 Super User Posted March 27, 2019 We are loading up the boats and heading down to the Chick river Saturday. We have some friends down there and since the Potomac is still cold and muddy, we are heading South for what have been reported as some big ditch pickles being pulled out of that river. If we get on em' I'll post up some pics. I am pretty stoked. First real chance at a big fish this year. After that we will concentrate on the mighty Potomac trying to hit the prespawn just right. Super User Sam Posted March 28, 2019 Author Super User Posted March 28, 2019 As of March 28th the Dogwoods are not close to blooming. Water temp in One Fish Anna was 47* this past weekend, far from the 60* needed for them to start heading to their beds. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted March 28, 2019 Super User Posted March 28, 2019 Down on the Peninsula there are buds on some of our DWs. Quote
Black Bill Dance Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 I'm gonna do a little pond hopping this weekend, hoping to snag some quality fish. Probably head over to Byrd Park when I leave the office here in a little bit. 1 Quote
