Red Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 i am considering getting on of these to use on some small private tanks and the golf course tanks....i am wondering what kind of critters i should be aware of while my feet are dangling in the water? is it really a worry? i know we have seen snakes, turtles and alligator gar in these waters....will any of these be something i would have to worry about attacking? i am not from texas so i dont know if it is even a good idea....but man there is one tank on the golf course that i MUST get out on somehow...the shoreline is very limited to fishable areas but i just know there is some hawgs in there...so any texas natives...is this too risky or would i be ok? thanks Cliff Quote

Heck as long as you don't spook any of the bottom feeders food source away I would guess that you should be alright. I mean how bad/hard can it be to fight off snakes, turtles and alligator gar from the safty and confort of a float tub while fighting one of those big old hawgs of a bass! U should be ok I would guess. Quote
dman Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 i would be way to freaked out in one of these! imagine even just having a nice bigun hooked and he swims under you as you bring him in, line getting wrapped around you leg! its gotta happen! or little tiny catfish swimming up into your trunks! (this happened on a beach when we were swimming as kids!) Snappers would be my biggest fear, those suckers are BIG and MEAN! Quote

Pick up a coleman 4 man colossus raft for 75 bucks. They inflate and deflat in about 5 minutes and that way your feet are out of the water. You can also sit on the back on the raft without it tipping or what not. I'm close to 205 and have no problems. Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 I float tube a bunch, but I live in the Northeast where alligators are not a problem, and snakes aren't really a problem. Oh, and worrying about a 12-15 lber wrapping around my feet is not a problem, unfortunately. I'd say don't do it man, not in TX - everything is bigger there, I've heard... Quote
rbrick Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 I have been tubing here in Fla.for the past couple years.I see gators almost every time I go out.I have not had any problems with them except for the ones people feed getting a little close. However I would never tube at night. Quote
lurelosingfishrman Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 I have been tubing for a long time and there's nothing to worry about if you have wadders wear them or an old pair of shoe's most of the time snakes wont bother you and if they do hit your rod tip in the water in fornt of them turtles will just poke around wont touch you and the gar you never see them. fish!! that's what you should be worried about perch will nip and ya and scare the crap out of you but orther than that nothing to worry about you'll be kinda scared the first 15 20 min. but after that you'll get that first fish and forget about it till ya run your shin into a log and almost pee on your self thats how it was for me the first time. lol have fun Quote
rbrick Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 I wear swim fins with them so nothing nips my feet. Quote

I still went ahead and got a one man pontoon, I sit out of the water and the only part of my body that is in the water is my feet up half way to my knee. I know some tubes can also sit you high like that. I was told that snakes don't come near me and so far it is true. I have a great time tubing around where bass boats cannot go or in small ponds. I say don't worry about the animals you mention, snakes are also in ground and fish don't come near you because you need to be re-adjusting you position every so often, (I use fins also) so you are moving your feet most of the time you are in the water. Enjoy yourself and get a big bass!! Quote
