Gfd63 Posted April 14, 2018 Posted April 14, 2018 Not sure if this is where this post should go but I figured Bass boats & equipment is close enough. Called Ranger & got the vortex hub replacement for the oil bath turbo lube original hub. Its a whole assembly integral hub/rotor on the spindle. Got everything off with the exception of the old assembly which is tighter than a Nun’s chastity belt. Even tried hammering on the castle nut with 3lb maul. It didnt even budge. Has anybody replaced their’s before & if so how’d ya get the old assembly out? Thanks in advance. ”Bet on a Vet, You Both Win” Quote
Crappiebasser Posted April 14, 2018 Posted April 14, 2018 I have replaced and serviced mine several times and never had a castle nut seized on. Just take out the cotter pin and the nut should only be hand tight. 1 Quote
Gfd63 Posted April 15, 2018 Author Posted April 15, 2018 Its not the castle nut, its the whole assembly including the spindle that should come out once the nut is off. I get the nut off but can't get the tapered shaft out of the sleeve. Guess i could use the original spindle & just put the new hub on it, but according to Ranger just unscrew the nut & replace the whole thing. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted April 15, 2018 Super User Posted April 15, 2018 The shaft on my Ranger trailer hub is welded to the axle. The hub, bearings and seals come off as a group, but the tapered axle shaft stays on the trailer. 1 Quote
Gfd63 Posted April 16, 2018 Author Posted April 16, 2018 It doesn't look like mine is welded to the trailer. It has a castle nut behind the shaft of the spindle Scott. And the new replacement from Ranger is the same set up. So it looks like I may have to apply a little propane torch heat to it before I try to pop it off with a mallet. Quote
