Personal favorite reel brand

Shimano....still debating on getting a Daiwa Steez, but hard to pass up on a Chronarch MGL or Metanium MGL every time.

Last year Lew's speed spool LP really impressed me. So much so that this year I bought another one. Can't wait to try it out. They have good quality for an inexpensive ($70) price.

I think your intent is fine, but if you use a thread like this to make future purchases...well...beware.  Very few replies will give you apples to apples comparisons.  For example, I have a Daiwa reel that I love....and I have a Pinnacle that I hate...and I had a Quantum that failed after a couple weeks.   Without a LOT more context, I could easily drive you to ill-informed decisions.  The Daiwa I speak of above retails for many times what the other two cost me.  After years of avoiding Quantum, I have since developed a great affection for them.  Most of my most recent baitcasting reel purchases have been Quantums.  But, unless you know that any poster replying here has used reels of comparable application (spinning v baitcasting/round v low profile/low v high gear ratio, etc.) and price range, you really don't have data that's useful.  You may find better info in threads about specific type of reel in specific price range - and ask for users with experience across multiple brands.

This^ I buy the Abus used and overhaul/hot rod them. They just fit my hands better than a low-profile reel.

I've been using Shimano spinning reels for years, but a few Pfluegers are starting to creep in.

Have had many Curado's along the way, as well as the last 2 (200i and K). LOVE them. Well last year I started adding different Tatula's to the arsenal. I am beyond impressed. I'd put them right up there with the Curado.

Spinning: Shimano Stradic, especially the current FK model. Wow!

 

Baitcasting: Citica and Curado with upgraded (and frequently cleaned and lightly oiled) spool bearings. 

 

These have never let me down. One of the main reasons I've remained loyal to Shimano reels is that I've gotten really comfortable breaking them down and deep-cleaning them. I used to have a mix of Shimano, Abu, and Daiwa. All nice reels.

I'll mention them.  I have 4 of the old school PQ's in my lineup and I love them.  Built like a battle tank and have only gotten better with age.  I service them but they are all beat up and look like hell.  They have never let me down

I freely admit to being one of the few Quantum fans.  I've been using them for almost 30 years now, and I have yet to have one malfunction seriously.  Yes, I've replaced a few parts here and there and I've had to do a bit if tweaking on one or two, but that can happen to any brand.  I'll also qualify that I've stuck pretty much with their higher middle to upper range reels.  The lowest level I've had are the old EX series and I'll have to say that for composite framed reels, those suckers were stout.  Yes, I still use a couple. 

 

Lew's is my second favorite and gaining ground.  I've had an original BB-1NG for about 20 years now and it still goes out most days I fish.  That thing is a tank!!  Recently picked up a Tournament MB and a Speed Spin and although I haven't had a chance to really wring them out they feel great and perform very well. 

 

This is kinda like the old Chevy vs. Ford vs. Dodge (and now vs. Toyota vs. Nissan) argument.  Every brand has it's loyal customers who won't even acknowledge the others.  Tben there are folks who use some of them all because they've found that every brand has it's strengths and weaknesses.  My advice is to use what works for you regardless of the brand and enjoy!

I was hoping that there was a meeting between the company involved and Glenn at the Bassmaster Classic to kiss and make up.

Shimano and Daiwa. Both produce excellent quality reels. I have some Curados hitting 10+ years and they still fish like they are new.

I agree, I have 3 of them.  They are tanks, unfortunately it seems someone else agrees that they are good because I left two at my cottage, during renovations it seems they've gone missing.  I'm not 100% ruling out they weren't stolen and misplaced, but they aren't where I stored my reels in an old green tool box!  So it is likely.  They were my beater and lender reels.  I wouldn't hesitate though in recommending them to people new to baitcasters.

My favorite reel brand is the one that suits my need for a price I'm willing to pay. I have curados to cheap pinnacles and they've all pretty much did what I wanted them too.
