Has anyone fished the 7'7" medium Tatula rod (not the glass version)? I was looking at it to throw paddletails and small cranks and was wondering if anyone had any input.

Thanks,

Jack

The black and gold one or black and white? I've heard amazing things about the black and gold tatula rods.

I believe Jack is asking about the original Tatula.  Sorry Mr. Klassen but I can't help with that rod.  I do have 5 other models from the original Tatula line.  All I can say about them is I think they are excellent rods for the money.  Two have a Regular action.  I have become fond of that action since getting my Tatulas.

Yep I was talking about the original rods. I've heard lots of good things about the series. Is regular more of moderate-fast taper?

I'm guessing the 7'7" is just a longer verison of that blank...

I bought 2 TAT701MRB for my friend's as beginner rod.  It's more like a moderate fast.  Great rod for top water bait and crankbait.  Almost keep one for myself. But I have angel and conquest waiting for me.

Yes. Same blank. Just longer. It's a moderate fast

I have the 7'7" Medium Zillion and I love it for the 3.8" Keitechs. I fish Lk St Clair so just chuck it out there as far as I can and wind it in. Scott Martin uses a 7'11" Okuma rod for his paddletails. Just chucks it out there a mile. Just don't set the hook when you feel them bite keep reeling and the rod will load up.

I can't comment on the 7'7", but I have a 6'10" MH/F and a 7'2" MH/R glass rod and both are solid rods. The 7'7" glass rod might not be a bad choice as well. On the 7'2", vibrations are slightly muted but you still feel almost everything.

I wouldn't hesitate before buying another Tatula rod.

Thank you! That is pretty much exactly what I plan on using the rod for. Might have to look into the zillion if I can find a deal..

Good to know. The price seems to good to believe. I bought mine for $210 off eBay and it retailed for $270 at the time. I really like my Zillion rod. I bought it for bigger crankbaits but I just like it for the 3.8 to 4.3" Keitechs. Good luck with your search.

The 'Regular' taper on the Tatula is like a fast/moderate-fast. Very nice rods, but handle is a little short on the 7'2" rods for my preference. IMO 'Regular' taper is best if used for spinner/Chatter baits, and jigs.  Definitely not moderate.

I ordered a 7'7" Medium Regular taper last night (non glass) because it has the 13 3/4" handle (same as my 7' MRB).  I got it on a good deal that I just had to try it.  I can always return it locally too if it doesn't fit my needs which is great so  shipping to me is free and there is no return cost.  I may put a JDM CVZ 203 on it to balance it out but have other reels to try out as well.  Any idea how it would do with 4.8 size paddle tail swimbaits?  Thanks.
