Picking a Day Based on Weather Trends

Hey guys, if you could only fish one day out of this week, based on this weather pattern which day would you fish and why? What baits/lures would you use?? I was thinking Friday because it seems like it’s on the end of a 3 day warming trend. Maybe I’ll parallel some primary or secondary points where deep water is close to shallow water. Maybe throw some cranks or jigs depending on water clarity.

 

FYI: we’ve been averaging around 40° days so this 70° weather coming up will hopefully get them stirred up.

Friday just based on this weather report. But if I was going to a place that gets a crowd, then it would be Thursday. Lots of people make it a long weekend. I like the days in a sustained, stable warm weather trend in the spring. And a day like that just before a possible pressure changing front can be very good. No guarantees though.

The warm weather will not have had time to affect the water temp yet so I would go to my second best choice and that would be pre-frontal on Friday.  But in all honesty, I go whenever I get the chance weather be damned!!

Easy decision. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Why not make it a long weekend? With weather like that its worth going out all 3 days. If you go out Saturday, I would be fishing shallow. If the water is muddy use big baits that put off a lot of vibration like big spinner baits with Colorado blades or wide wobbling crank baits. If its clear go with more subtle baits like swim baits and jerk baits. Just my opinion.

Like everyone else, if I had to pick one day it would be Friday though I wouldn't count out Thursday or Saturday before the front either if I had the time.  A few days of a stable weather pattern is a rule of thumb for good fishing and pre-frontal conditions should be optimum.

As Gundog mentioned, Saturday could be a good day, and possibly one of the best as well.  If the front comes in later on Saturday all hours before that should be considered.

Friday.  Water has had time to warm up and should be pre-frontal.  I would be looking for transitions into spawning areas and throwing alot of spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and jerkbaits.

Not necessarally.  I fish a large lake that is 8 feet deep at it's deepest point.  Two hours of continuous sunshine is enough to effect the water temp.

that warming trend looks good, just be prepared for that 10-20 mph “freight train” out of the SW to be joining us on the lake. hang on boys!

Friday or Saturday depending on what time the storm is supposed to roll through, but that's a good week in my book, I'll take any of those days.

I too would pick any day....even sat could be great...but not so much for working on the tan!!  One day...probably Friday.  Now if it was sunny and clear after Friday.......and it was my only day......ewwwwwwww

The only factor that effects my decisions the most is wind.  I will choose a place to fish because of wind.  Once above 15 mph steady, I stay home, because I can.  I will choose a place sheltered from heavy wind, and a place where the wind can push me while I fish.  I don’t like fighting strong wind, and being on the TM all day.  The other thing is lightning.  I will pick a spot with bridges I can tie up under until a storm passes.  I am blessed to have productive bodies of water with many substantial bridges.

I wouldn't have the choice to pick my spot, therefor I would go when I could, and work around the conditions I was facing.

 

But if I did have the luxury of picking what day, I would pick Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd. 

 

Friday is the 3rd day of a warming trend...............a wise old timer once told me many years ago that was "the" day to hit the water, and I'll be dipped if his advise hasn't been accurate more than it's been wrong.

 

As for Saturday...it depends, is the storm/front passing in the middle of the night/pre dawn on Sat.? If so, skip going until the afternoon, but if it's passing by in the afternoon, the morning should be a good time to be out there provided it's safe...........IE no dangerous wind/waves, and/or electricity in the air.

 

Of course all those "shoulds" come with an * .................the bass have the final say in the matter and don't read a book, or play by the rules humans set for them at times.

Well.....it's the 14th, your weather forecast was accurate, 75% rain today with 14-24 mph wind and 100% tonight. Did you go fishing on Friday the 13th or are you superstitious and stayed home?
