I need a jig rod but don’t know where to start. I do know that the handle has to be cork. It doesn’t matter if it is split grip or full. And I would like something that balances really well. Thanks in advance.

You need to supply more information if you want suggestions for what you fish and your price range.

So

Budget?

Jig weights?

Type of cover?

Rod length preferences?

are just 4 to get you thinking.

That’s true. Lol. I fish 3/8 and 1/2 jigs and I fish a lot of brush. My budget is 350 and on the rod length it has to be 7 feet or more

Powell Inferno Medium Heavy Extra Fast ?

Dobyns dx745 .  744 is too light, IMO, for a 1/2oz jig with trailer.  I have all of the dx74* line and the 745 is by far the best jig rod.  Light and perfectly balanced.

I also have a st croix legend extreme 7'4" heavy fast rod, and still prefer the dx745 over it.  It balances better and feels more sensitive.

Basically the same balance, DX is a newer blank with upgraded guides.

Another option would be a custom ALX rod in the DX price range or call Gary and ask him what rod he suggest based the info you give him.

I plan on giving him a call. I’m trying to choose between megabass perfect pitch, fmj and the Dobyns extreme and shimano expride.

I like st Croix avid x. Just played with a fenwick world class that was really nice. Hear great things about dobyns and g loomis.

I won't use cork much any more, much prefer Winn grips. Having said that if i were to go that route the dobyns champion xp would be my choice!  Amazing blanks built with great quality!

Get a used NRX 894, which you can find around the top of your budget.  You could also go with the new Megabass Orochi XX Perfect Pitch!  If they improved upon the existing version in any way they will be an even more unbelievable rod for the price.

I have enough jig rods (nrx, z-bone, perfect pitch), but if I was looking for one I'd take a look at the FMJ. I hear nothing but rave reviews from guys who would know.

I agree a 5 power is my preference however the higher power comes with less casting ability with 3/8-1/2 oz jigs for most anglers. If the OP is comfortable casting with less upper rod flex, 5 power offer some advantages.

Where do I look for a used nrx?

EBay has some good sellers.  The hookup tackle is a real store that moves their trade in rods on ebay.  The tackle trap also sells dealer rep samples.

If you want balance, I'd look into the Megabass Orochi Lineup. The perfect pitch is pretty much "perfect" for jigs. GLX level sensitivity with better balance and beautiful aesthetically.

With bottom contact techniques ya gotta be able to touch the rod blank for maximum feel.

MB FMJ without a doubt!

That one and the daemos are my dream sticks. I bet a conquest on a daemos will be gorgeous!!!!

those are my two favorite rods in my collection, the fmj and daemos. followed by nrx and old glx (maybe because i havent fished the newer version).

the fmj is well  balanced and sensitive (in my hands) up there with NRX. not too long as many jig rods are getting. swapped out a NRX 873 for it and dont regret it - the 873 is a great rod

IMO 1/2 oz plus plastic is ideal for it. 3/8 still feels great. can double as a "light" frog rod and good with larger single hook moving baits.

What do you use the daemos for.  I’m thinking about getting it for swim jigs and chatters

its great for those. it ended up becoming my "medium" jig rod though. 1/4-3/8oz plus plastic. it can handle 1/2 but not ideal IMO. great for t-rig when cover permits.

its a bit faster than the original version XX DSR and doesnt cast quite as far. Its definitely more crisp and sensitive. many prefer a slower action for chatterbaits but i like a fast type.
