Wondering where other Canadian’s typically buy tackle from online? Usually use tacklewarehouse but shipping, exchange and duties can be rough sometimes. I live over an hour from any tackle store or I’d buy more locally.

I’m in a similar way as you, I’ve not yet used tackle warehouse but I’ve got some stuff from bass pro and cabelas, as well as amazon. Recently I’ve ordered some stuff from eBay and was very pleased with all the transactions, got some decent deals on baits and good prices on bulk treble hooks. One place in Canada is Fishntech, they’re out of Quebec and I’ve got a lot of stuff for my boat from them for electronics etc. Good prices, and fast shipping.

Do you use the Canadian or American amazon?

I’ve only used amazon.ca. Not always the best selections and you have to watch the prices because sometimes they’re way out there but there is some decent deals and the shipping is usually pretty quick.

eBay all day. I'm about to giveaway my preferred shop, you need to check out Departure Outdoors. Last 2 orders snuck by customs. Yes, I paid $10 CAD shipping, NO CUSTOMS.  They're the only ebay acct to do this, not sure how they manage it. There's a few other decent ones that charge you custom/shipping/purchase at once which saves surprise at the front door.

TW is worth it, if you can't find things local to you or on ebay. I'm spoiled, I live in Barrie that has a Cabela's and a well stocked Crappy Tire. Sail and Bass Pro are 40 minutes away.

Those little local business are good, if the shop keepers is keeping up with trends. There's half a dozen of them in Toronto but I can't be bothered to drive around in the city.

I just ordered my first mystery tackle box. $26.99 USD shipped (Pro box it includes about $40 of gear). The last time I was at Canadian Tire I spent like $40 on like 4 things. Total rip off. Can't wait for the first box to come in.

I've yet to do this because I feel like I'm circumventing my inner bait monkey and I feel like I could get more for my dollar going the eBay route. I'm not knocking the 2 services, but I think I could hand pick better items myself. On top of that, you might end up with a bunch of stuff you won't use because you don't have the right gear.

Considering most of the West except BC, don't have bass in their lakes/fisheries etc. What's your experience with their offering?

I was looking at ordering a few things from departure outdoors, but the shipping was adding up substantially for a few bags of zoom baby brush hogs, which for some unknown reason we can't get here in Ontario. I was going to end up paying almost the same amount for shipping as I was the plastics.

May I ask what or how many items you purchased through them for the $10 shipping rate?

I am an hour or so away from BPS. Amazon Canada is hit or miss. Sails is very close to me, but so so selection. Canadian Tire is out to lunch with their pricing and selection lately. Local shops seem to have odd ball selections.

Last order I got from had roughly 15 baits, mostly little cranks, frogs, couple of spro swimbaits. When you order from them make sure you add items to your cart and checkout as one order to get the best shipping rate.

Sail is usually has a pretty good selection of baits, not many big box shop have jackall and megabass products on their shelf. Try Pro J's in Scarborough, they have good selection of baits, gear and just about anything you need at decent prices.

I placed an order with Amazon.ca, last month and got a few good items for cheap. Specifically, Zoom Double Tail Grubs, I got a chartreuse and 2pks black @ $3.95 CDN each. There's an inventory algorithm that drops the unit cost when their stock starts diminishing. I've found some epic rods for cheap then they spike back up when they get inventory again. So I agree with you, it is hit or miss, but there is a rationale to the roller coaster pricing.
