Swimbait setup help

Okay I want a swimbait rod that could fish swimbaits up to 8" And weighing 2-5 oz all being treble hook baits besides the 6" hud i have which will probably be the only jig style bait I'll throw on my set up. 

Which of these and there models will cover that best,  dobyns fury 795-806  daiwa dx 8ft heavy or 8ft XHeavy. Okuma guide select heavy-xheavy

Definitely the 806 if you're going to try and throw trebles and jig style baits with one setup. I have 50lb braid on my Fury 806 for jig style hooks. For trebles, I'll use a copolymer leader. I use my 795 mainly for top water rats and big spooks.

This is exactly what I fish on my 806 champion.  I run 20lb yhb for line and a lunar 253 reel.  Very happy with it.

The setup will mainly be towards treble hook baits like Glide and double jointed baits  but I would like it to handle a HUD 68 special or 8 inch trash fish those being the only jig hook swimbaits I'll be throwing if I'm trying to throw it on a bed or something like that

You can also look at the the Okuma Guide Select XH. I have that for biggish stuff and a custom SCIV custom 79HF for smaller one to three oz. baits.

I don't have experience with the 806 but I have the 795 and it handles all the baits you listed fine, I just wouldn't push it to an 8" hudd or anything. If the 806 can handle an S-waver 168 (someone else can chime in here) then I'd say go for that since it will have a little more power for those 8" trash fish and you could fish stuff like 8" hudds too if you wanted. I'm just not sure how it handles it's lower weight rating for the 6" stuff like the 68 specials and 168 waver etc. 

 

Oh and for what it's worth, I specifically bought the 795 to replace my Okuma Guide Select HEAVY, I just did not like the way that rod loaded at all, the 795 feels so much more crisp and handles it's entire weight rating much better. The Guide select HEAVY felt like it had a much tighter "sweet" spot and outside of that did not feel right. The 795 also has a shorter handle than the guide select (you may or may not like that, I like it since I fish from a kayak a lot). However, I have heard from many that the EXTRA HEAVY Guide select has a very different feel to it so don't let me dissuade you from that one if others feel it is appropriate for the range of baits you listed. Again I am not sure how good it would be for those 6" baits though.

The 168 is on the light end for the 806.  It's less than 2 Oz but you can use it. The 6 inch hudds are no issue but I have not used the 8 so got nothing there.  The deps 175 weighs 3 Oz and is a great casting bait on that rod.  They can be found used around 50.

Are you talking about the dobyns fury or champion I'm speaking about the fury

Heaviest I've thrown on that rod is a 200 Swaver, which is 3.5 ounces. It did not seem like it was pushing it at all and I think you could get right up to it's upper weight rating of 5oz. I do think 6 would definitely be pushing it though. Some day I will give my 8" hudd a try on it just to truly test the 5oz upper rating. 

 

If I were you, I'd ask myself which end of the spectrum you are going to be using the most. If 6" BBZ's and 168 Swavers are going to be your bread ad butter, definitely go with the 795. But if you find yourself wanting to throw those 8" glides more I'd lean towards the 806.

Your right the baits Im going to mainly throw is 2 through 4 1/2 oz most of the 8 inch glides are 4 oz or just a little over 4 none of the baits I'll be throwing daily weighs over 5 oz so I think I will end up with the 795

Also something to add i was searching through tackle warehouse and came across the daiwa dx swimbait rod has some. Great reviews thought I add that and see what you all think about that rod

All said and done im looking for a rod that can throw 2-5 oz treble hook swimbaits I'm more then sure whatever rod that handles that I could also fish a 6 inch hud if I'm bed fishing

you'll be happy with the Fury 795 for sure. I'm happy with mine and toss a lot of smaller glides on my 795 but mainly toss a lot of Deps 175 Slide Swimmers and the rod casts them and handles the weight perfectly, have also the Hudd 68 on this rod and it handled it find. Only thing I wouldn't toss is a 8" Hudd on the 795 I've heard of guys doing it in a pinch but they weren't making bomb casts just pitching the 8" Hudd to select cover and that's it or would make a regular cast but mainly just lob it out there. You'll be happy with the Fury 795 if you decide to go that route for sure!

Never never never go underpowered with swimbait rods. 4 to 6 oz swimbaits you need a XHeavy rod rated 3-10 oz.

So what rod do you recommend for 2-5 oz baits mostly being treble hook
