tbrown2080 Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 I've recently caught my PB (around 14 lbs) and am having trouble finding a good replica made. So far I've been unable to find any replicas that look like her. She was full of roe and had a very large girth for her length. Just looking for resources on good taxidermists, preferably in the area around south Atlanta, GA - but i've accepted the fact that i'm probably going to have to pay shipping from somewhere to get what I want. Any information or links would be helpful. Thanks 3 1 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted April 2, 2018 Super User Posted April 2, 2018 Congrats on the PB, and welcome aboard! Did you catch & release her? She's got some great genetics at that size! And can't really help with tax peeps. I know Bass Pro offers replicas, have you tried them? 1 Quote

He did both my PB largemouth and smallie, both are his "master grade" and both are on threads in this forum and on his website... What was the length and girth of your fish tbrown2080? 2 Quote
tbrown2080 Posted April 3, 2018 Author Posted April 3, 2018 Thanks for the replies, I did try bass pro - not much luck there. I will reach out to Dave, thanks for the recommendation and link. Yes we released her after taking a bunch of pictures. She was full of roe and figured it would be good for her to spread those genes around. Not going to say releasing her was easy, but it felt like the right thing to do. She was 25" length and 21" girth. I caught her on the last cast of the day (I said out loud "last cast") after fishing all day catching nothing but 12" dinks. She almost flipped me out of my kayak the first time she dove; It could have quickly turned into one of the worst fishing experiences if that would have happened lol. 1 Quote
BCline Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 Nice Fish!! Did you put her on a scale? My fish calculator says that fish should weigh 11 1/2 lbs. I can see another pound or two from the eggs she is stuffed with. Where in Georgia are you? I grew up in Savannah and still get up there from time to time. Quote
tbrown2080 Posted April 4, 2018 Author Posted April 4, 2018 Yes, all we had was an old spring scale that we later found out was wildly inaccurate. She read 10 1/2 lbs that night and none of us believed it. I did some testing the next day and 12 1/2 lbs on that scale reads 9 1/2. So it's off by 3 lbs @ 12 1/2 lbs. So we figured she was at least 13 1/2. I would have loved to get her on a good digital scale, but it was late and we were trying to get her back into the water. I'm located in Newnan, which is about 30 minutes south of Atlanta down 85. Quote
Super User WRB Posted April 4, 2018 Super User Posted April 4, 2018 I don’t know how accurately you measured the bass; mouth closed laying flat from tip of lower jaw to the end of the center of the tail. The girth is around the widest area with the dorsal fin down. My formula is L x L x G / 1200 = wt in lbs. 25” L, 21”G = 11 lbs. Big bass regardless and the photo is taken in a driveway next to a garage, this bass will be very stressed but looks bright and healthy at that moment. Very frustrating not knowing a accurate weight, regardless it’s a bass of your lifetime.... congratulations. Hope you find a good taxidermist. Tom 1 Quote

22RangerZ520R Posted April 14, 2019 Posted April 14, 2019 Looks like Dave has updated his website and the link listed above is broken. Here are the pics of my PB's he did for me. My largemouth was 12lb 8oz, the smallie 6lb 4oz. My largemouth was 26" long and had a girth of 21.5". 2 Quote
