I have heard of people using their main motor to troll.  I had a couple of questions.  After playing around finding the right speed to go I started to think about another question.  I usually put out 2 poles with one 20+ diver and the other a 15 feet diver.  I was wondering when your trolling should you use the same kind of lure and depth on the two poles, or use different depths and different lures?  I didn't know if you should use the same to make it seem like a school of fish, or different to give them different choices.

Thanks for your time and any help.

That depends if you are trolling to locate the fish or trolling to fish a depth once you have located the depth at which the fish are holding.

Mainly finding them.

If you are on the search process then different diving depths is the way you should go, you are searching for them so you need to have your lures in a stair like pattern, once you have located the depth at which the fish are holding then you can switch baits and have them all running at the same depth. The numeber of strikes and what you see in your finder tells you at which depth the fish are holding for that particular area.

Many don 't see trolling as a real fishing technique, I do not agree with such opinion, after all you still have to find the fish, find the right speed that fish are liking, selecting the right lures and so on; it also gives you the oportunity to locate places that attract the fish to them. I found what now is one of my best spots in my home lake by trolling.

In TN, I think each person on a boat is allowed 3 rods.  Whenever I am trolling with my buddy and a his wife we each have at least one rod out.  We all use different colors and fish different depths as well.  When one of us gets a hit we make adjustments.

I also do not agree with the opinion of trolling not being a real technique.  I have learned about the lake just from trolling.  I have found great spots, that do not get fished as heavily because other people don't know it's there.

It may not be the most active type of fishing, but you can't beat for those days when your gf brings all her friends out on the boat and they want to cruise.
