Lukie Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 just got into the swimbait game just need some recommended line and knots choices Quote
Super User Angry John Posted April 2, 2018 Super User Posted April 2, 2018 Line I use is 12-20 lb yo-zuri hybrid. 15 on 168 waivers 20 on lures over 3 Oz. I have been using 12 on a deps 175 and it seems to be doing great. A lot of people like l-line cxx, and if you desire flourocarbon abrazeX has a lot of fans. On big baits like the hinkle shad most people run 20 or 25. Knots I use a palomar, and my fishing partner uses a uni. Quote
frosty Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 I just run braid, I believe I’ve got 50# on right now. I personally use a palamor(sp?) knot, simple and effective. Quote
Super User WRB Posted April 2, 2018 Super User Posted April 2, 2018 What size/weight swimbaits? Tom 2 Quote

All about da bass Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 30 pound braid for me. If water is clear and the fish is spooky, I'll risk it and go to about 20 to 25 pound Fc. Good luck Quote
Super User WRB Posted April 2, 2018 Super User Posted April 2, 2018 I use Sunline Deifer Armillo Nylon 25 lb test for swimbaits 2oz to 7oz. Braid can destroy soft swimbaits. Tom Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted April 2, 2018 Super User Posted April 2, 2018 I use 20lb P-Line PF original and exclusively run a san diego jam knot. Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted April 8, 2018 Super User Posted April 8, 2018 I like using the uni knot when fishing swimbaits. For line I like using 20-25 pound test big game mono or 30-50 pound test braid, depending on the swimbait I am using. Quote
Super User WRB Posted April 8, 2018 Super User Posted April 8, 2018 FYI 25 lb Defier Armilo is .016D smaller then 17 lb CXX (.017) and very strong good casting line. Knots, mono line isn't knot sensitive like FC, any good knot you have confidence tying works good, Palomar or San Diego jam is what I use. FC is popular with glide anglers, 20 lb Seaguar Abrax with SD jam knot. Tom Quote

Do you know the actual breaking strength of 25lb Defier? I want to fish a BBZ Rat around edges pads but lost one on 15lb YZH, which I though would be strong enough. It is very close in diameter to 25lb Defier, so I assume they are around the same strength? I have a spare spool for my reel loaded with 55lb braid, but it seems like overkill for the cover I am fishing. Quote

Armilo averages about 110% knot strength based on lb test of line; 13 lb = 15, 17 lb =21, 25 lb = 28 on average. Tom Quote

I use a triline knot for most everything, I will have to see if I can even tie a palomar around such a large and snaggy lure. Quote

Trilene & improved clinch knots works good with mono/Copoly lines, they are not knot sensitive lines if tied properly. Tom Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 11, 2018 Global Moderator Posted April 11, 2018 20lb Big Game or CXX with a Palomar or SDJ knot. Quote
