Beaufoshow Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 Went to palestine just south of ocean pond outside of lake city got there around 7:15. First cast caught 7 lbs 11 oz bass. From what it looks she was already spaund out. So after that thinking i would have an awesome day kept working the grass and pads with frog, no other bites. Then it was about 9:30 tried just running a speed worm to cover ground. No bites. So by that time got really windy around 11 with no bites other than the first cast of the morning.. moved to a lipless crankbait on a deeper outter grass line. Nothing. Called it a day along with 3 other boats that didnt catch anything. First time ever on that lake. Looks really good but from what the guys that fish it alot said its not too good and worth the extra 30 min to hit locloosa, orange, or sante fe. 8 Quote

I would say a 7 pound 11 oz.bass is pretty good in my book !! Did you catch it on the frog ? Quote

Super User N Florida Mike Posted March 31, 2018 Super User Posted March 31, 2018 That's the way it is with a frog. I caught a 7.3 early on the 4th of July last year on a pad crasher. Only bite on the frog. I never caught a fish at Palestine on a moving bait. Only by fishing worms very slow. Red shad and moccasin culprits !! There are some monster specks in there too. Heard of a 3 + pounder being caught there. That lake does look good with all the cypress , grass and pads. And it's still remote enough to take you back to old Florida. You remember that little gnarly cypress tree right out from the boat ramp ? I ran a trotline for catfish off it more than once. We used to camp there back in the day and put out the line right before dark and get butter cats. Good times... 1 Quote

Especially the ones about 100 yards off shore. But even when i moved away from the frog to a speedworm and sticbait still got no strikes. I tried to look for beds but the water i could only see about 6 inches into lol 1 Quote

lunker82 Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Just hit Palestine yesterday and got nothing. I tried super shallow on the windblown northwest bank with frogs and t-rig 7" rage tail worm in black/blue, threw a jackhammer chatterbait with creature bait trailer, went to south side straight out from boat ramp and mostly worked the banks but still....notta. I will try it again, seems like a perfect bass lake so they have to be there somewhere. It was very windy. Quote
