optimator Posted March 31, 2018 Author Posted March 31, 2018 Just now, WRB said: Rods had foregrips until the early 2000's, now you see the short foregrip version coming back in favor over the bare nut designs. Reason is it's difficult to always palm the reel, it's easier to hold the rod with 2 fingers and run the line over the index finger and under the thumb. Raising the line up to the top of the level wind guide with your index finger is the problem because of they way you palm the reel. Tom Nope. It only happens with the T wing. Palming a reel has never been difficult for me, even back with the old Garcia 5000's. The Daiwa isn't difficult to palm. It's a good reel. But the line doesn't spool correctly when it lifts out of the eye. Which is impossible to have happen with a conventional eye. Some of you guys are making way more out of this than what my experience is with this reel. Quote
Super User WRB Posted March 31, 2018 Super User Posted March 31, 2018 Didn't say you are doing anything wrong, just lifting the line to the top of the level wind guide. We all have our own technique holding rods & reels. I am lot older and learned to use casting reels without level winds and controlling the line onto the spool is second nature for me and feeling line critical for strike detection. No issues with T-wings or any other reel. Peace. Tom Quote

Tom Ah gotcha! I misunderstood what you said. My apologies Tom! I might even give it another chance tomorrow. Or just throw it on my frog rod. Quote
