BrackishBassin Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 So, I’ve decided to replace my current MH set up with something a little nicer. It’s a Black Max combo. It works, but I find myself fishing my M set up more often because it casts so much better and is far lighter. I travel once a year to NY and once to SC. I used to be able to pop my rods in the car with no problems. However, I now have twin boys. With all of our stuff loaded, there’s no room for 7ft rods. So, I’m leaning towards making my new MH set up a travel rod so that I could take it with me to NY for bass and to SC for red drum. Does anyone have any experience with any of the travel rods available now (e.g. Daiwa Ardito, St. Croix Triumph Travel, etc.)? Any and all input would be appreciated. Thanks! Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted March 29, 2018 Super User Posted March 29, 2018 Best Travel rod I've used ~ and I've used (and snapped a few). http://www.gloomis.com/content/gloomis/northamerica/usconv/en/homepage/PDP.P-ESCAPE_SERIES.html The MH casting rod is particularly sweet. Super User WRB Posted March 29, 2018 Super User Posted March 29, 2018 I always shipped my long rods to Canada or used a rod tube to protect them if traveling on a airplane or auto. Tom Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted March 29, 2018 Super User Posted March 29, 2018 I keep a 7’ M/F Diawa Ardito under my truck’s back seat. It’s a 3 piece rod in a semi-hard case and is typical Diawa fit & finish (A+++). I don’t use it much, but when I do, it feels like most of my other casting rods. Lastly, JetBlue allows it as a carry on. Quote
Hulkster Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 another vote for the Loomis Escape series. I own two. worth the investment because they come with a crush proof rod tube and rod sock. they are great. 1 Quote
desmobob Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 I bought a Daiwa Ardito for travel and liked it so much, I bought a second one. Check out the review on TackleTour. Tight lines, Bob 1 Quote

Tom Protection isn’t really the issue. It’s space that’s the problem. Thanks though! 1 hour ago, A-Jay said: Best Travel rod I've used ~ and I've used (and snapped a few). http://www.gloomis.com/content/gloomis/northamerica/usconv/en/homepage/PDP.P-ESCAPE_SERIES.html The MH casting rod is particularly sweet. I hear ya - they are a little steep - American Legacy put them on sale once a year for like $250-ish. Might jump on that one. A-Jay 1 Quote

Super User fishwizzard Posted March 30, 2018 Super User Posted March 30, 2018 I can't recommend a specific rod, but check out some of the Major Craft rods on ebay. They offer a lot of 2-part models across a few of their ranges. People really seem to like them and JDM companies in general tend to offer more multipart rod options. If you can do ~$200, Megabass has a 2-part MH in their Hyuga line. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Megabass-Hyuga-611-2Mh-Medium-Heavy-611-Bass-Fishing-Baitcasting-Rod-Pole-New/323175662423?epid=1039866379&hash=item4b3ec54357:g:tZsAAOSwgc1au9GJ That shipping price is insane, but you might be able to find one with more reasonable shipping from one of the JDM sites, 2-part rods ship for pretty cheap. 1 Quote
drew4779 Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 Check out the Fenwick methods rods. It offers different actions and weights all in one tube. I've owned one for a few years now with no complaints. 1 Quote

SDoolittle Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 I have a couple of Browning Safari travel rods that have worked well for me. You can get them at BPS for $79.99. Quote
