Basstactician Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 Hello everyone, i have been using spinning gear for about 10 years. Consequently, my knowledge of jigs isn't up to par. My objective is to make quality arkys. I was going to start with Gamakatsu hooks and hand tie silicone skirts. I'm using 2 base color models with matching jig head paint and brush guards. Does the avid jig user prefer the skirt to be hand tied? I basically want to know what you think makes a top shelf jig and am I on the right track. I am really greatful to be a part of such a vast knowledge base of bass fishing. Thanks Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 29, 2018 Global Moderator Posted March 29, 2018 A good hook and paint job (doesn't have to be a fancy paint job, just a clean one), a good skirt pattern and proper amount of skirt material, and a wire or thread tied skirt are what I look for. Quote
Basstactician Posted March 29, 2018 Author Posted March 29, 2018 Ok is the wire preferred over hand tied thread? I'm just trying to gather and incorporate information so I'm capable of making quality lures. Thank you for your time Quote
cadman Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 I mainly use thread for hair jigs and wire for silicone tabs. Wire is faster to tie with. Quote
Super User WRB Posted March 29, 2018 Super User Posted March 29, 2018 Start by buying a few quality jigs so you know what a good Arkie style jig is. TNT Wadda jig designed by the late Andy "Cooch" Cuccia features everything a quality Arkie jig should be. Site sponsor Siebert Outdoors offers quality Arkie jigs, try his. The investment in mold, melting pot, hooks, various fiber weed guards, lead can be expensive if you don't know what you doing. Tom 1 Quote
