Shallow to mid crank rod.

Apologies as I know this has been beaten to death, and I know one does not need to spend a lot of money for a crankbait rod.

I have a MH e6x that works fine for heavy baits, but lacks on the lighter baits.

i know there are tons of rods that fit this bill, but I am looking for something that is a joy to throw..

I have a nice crankbait rod, a VanDam if I recall.

 

After using it for a couple years, I got to playing. I'm a fan of the Cherrywood rods, but have recently replaced them with lighter graphite rods.

 

I found that one of those Cherrywood HD rods -- the 7' MH -- makes a perfect (for me) shallow to medium crankbait rod. I use mostly squarebills and haven't tried it with deep divers.

Since you never mentioned a budget I will suggest a mid priced rod I enjoy fishing.Check out an Irod Genesis II IRG 703cc A Gabe's Rip Rap Special. I really like mine for rattle traps, small to mid sized cranks, square bills and more. That would run you around $150.

So the champion cranking rods are nice if you like short handles.  The it factor for me is the steez flexlite.  My fishing partner loves his slant bridge white python.  Tons of cool nice unique options.  They gave the x-10 phoenix rave reviews on tt and said it was alost as good as the steez but less than half the price.  A dream for every budget.

I use 7’ M/M casting & spinning Abu Veritas Winches for smaller crankbaits.  They load up great, are light and sensitive. I dragged a squarebill through light salad with my spinner today. They’re $99 almost everywhere.

I enjoy fishing my Dobyns Champion 705cb and its pretty versatile or comfortable in several depth ranges and sizes of crankbaits. You can work your way up the line by going to the 764cb and 804/5cb if you want to fish depth ranges from 2 feet to 20+ feet.

This is something I struggle with as I don’t mind paying for quality and any rod that allows me to fish it all day without pay is a plus.  I would like to keep it under 300.00. Thanks

I recently purchased a Shimano Expride 7' M/M composite glass - super light and great action/feel with the best of both worlds in construction.  Wide lure range of 1/4-7/8 oz.  They also have a MH composite glass version.  Easy on the eyes too

 

I got it for $200 at BPS during the spring sale with a trade in, but there's a guy on ebay (trusted) that has been auctioning a lot of exprides lately - Simmons sporting goods.  Some of these might be older models that you can take the handle off so you might get a lower price.  New ones are supposed to be lighter.  They have one composite up now, but it's a medium light, unless that's what you're looking for.  Weekend walleye warrior I think has one buy it now at 200, medium light glass composite.  You'd probably want to at least see if a M/M pops up.

Well, you didnt mention price* and you have a preference for Loomis....I use a GLX 845 CBR for my cranks. It's rated MH/M, but I can throw pretty much anything; it loads up wonderfully and can sling a lure almost forever. And talk about senstitive- just amazing. It's so light i can crank all day. That rod puts a smile on my face. I didn't pay close to retail, so I've never worried about if I paid too much. Would I buy it again? Probably- since l've been spoiled but only if it was on sale.

There is a local guide here on Table Rock that sells a brand of rod called Razr. The 7ft. medium power casting rod is probably the best Wiggle wart ,Rock crawler, 3xd and small squarebill rod I've ever used .

The thing loads and casts the wart great. Also make a nice stickbait rod like the Mcstick and vision 110.

 It's the only rod of that brand I own and honestly I get a good discount on other brands but that thing is really good. It's the casting rod not crankbait specific.

 I think they are around $ 225.

It sounds like you are in need of a rod built on a Seeker SBS706 or SBS756 S-glass blank.  They aren't the lightest blanks in the world, but they are amongst the best cranking blanks ever made.

I found some open water today and decided to to try my shamano conquest MBR M/F and  it may have spoiled me for life.  It threw a 1/4 ounce CB a country mile and I was heaven.  While it will never be a diticated B rod, it sure could be.  Had it paired 1st with a MET MGL the a Conquest.  I will sleep good tonight
