Curado 70 question

I'm looking for a pitching reel mainly for 3/8 and 1/2 oz jigs.  I want to put 20lb seaguar fluoro on this reel but im worried I wont be able to put much line on this reel since the spool is so shallow?  Ill mainly be making pitches but everyonce inawhile I would like to make casts with it to reach just a little further.  Do you guys think this reel will work with 20lb fluoro or no?

What flouro specifically are you looking at? Most 20 lb flourocarbon lines range from .014-.016 mm. That would equate to you getting around 60-70 yards of line on the reel depending on the line diameter of flouro you choose. If it is only for pitching I don't think it would be a problem, but yes the spool is shallow. Consider braid as a possibility for backing to increase line capacity.

if you insist on using 20 lb fluoro I think curado 70 might not be such a good choice. Curado 200k or daiwa tatula CT might do the job better for both pitching and casting. Unless you wanna go braid the curado 70 is perfect.

I’d like to use seaguar invisX in 20 lb for jigs. I guess I could try 17 would that be better just worry about breaking off.

I use 17lb Tatsu on my 70 and have never broken off.  Literally never.  Set your drag to 5 pounds, check your line every 25-30 pitches and dont worry about it. No bass up here in Ohio that has the ability to make the line capacity an issue either.  If I somehow hooked into a 40 pound blue cat I would most likely get spooled but that would be my only concern.

 

Slight disclaimer is that I have zero grass in my lake and no docks, so I am only fishing laydowns, stumps etc.  I have intentionally laid into a fish as hard as I possibly can trying to break off and cant do it.  That is saying something as I am a bit larger/stronger than your average bear.  If I was fishing grass consistently I would not be using 17lb flouro.  I would be spooling up 50lb braid or something like that.

If this will help, I use 15lb InvizX (.013" Dia) on my two 70XG's with a little 10lb mono backing and if I do want a long cast I have never had a problem with not enough line.  Most of the time however I throw about 20 yds in heavy grass beds with weightless plastics.

The Curado 70 should hold enough 20lb fluoro to pitch with, but a good cast and a large fish could easily spool it.

 

You could try 17lb line, but I would personally just go with the larger Curado K and then you'd be good to cast with as well.
