What is the best cold water lure mid 30s to mid 40s surface temp

 I am looking for advice on what the best cold water Lures are I've heard spinner baits and Jigs I heard Jerk baits I normally don't fish in the cold water for bass but the bug has got me and I've got to get out I need help trying to figure out what I should be tieing on I've also heard that the retrieve is slow any truth to any of this please let me know what your best bait/retrieve is for right after ice out

Can you please be more specific on blade bait is it the same as spinner bait if so what blades Colorado willow? Thanks

A Marabou jig is a good   cold water lure but they are not popular anymore and hard to find   with bass sized hooks .

When the water is in the 30's (and I am fishing for largemouth) I will "dead stick" (leave it motionless on the bottom for up to 60 seconds) a small 1/4 ounce jig and craw. When the water gets to the mid 40's a lot of presentations come into play.

This time of the year when the water is that cold I will throw a jerkbait with a slow jerk, pause 4-10 seconds, jerk motion. I also throw a lipless crankbait. Let it drift to the bottom, lift it and let it sink, wait 4-10 seconds repeat. It can be maddening how long it takes to get the lure back to recast.

 

After a while I give up and go catfishing with a santee cooper rig on a baitfeeder reel. Cast out and wait 10 - 20 minutes. If nothing bites move a little down the shore and repeat.

x2  for the jerkbait... work it extremely slow, generally you are going to want to slow down big time with any presentation in cold water.  With that said you can still throw many types of lures but just work them so slow it is painful.

You might add suspending jerkbaits and squarebills.  Those are the three baits I’ve done well with in SE Mass this year where water temps have been in the high thirties and low forties.

Deep suspending jerkbaits, blade baits, float n flies, underspins, and a Ned Rig. Lipless cranks can be good too, especially in the upper range of those numbers.
