mike_ohm Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 Hey guys been reading a lot on this topic but am placing an order this week for some stuff and want a solid answer on split rings. I am looking to order a bunch of the owner split rings to upgrade a lot of my lures. I have a veriaty of crank baits but am mainly going to start with my giant collection of red eye shad. I’ll be doing rings and hooks. Question is what size split ring for the hooks and what size for the oval line tie ring?? I see mixed answers on these. Any input is much apriaciated! Mike Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted March 26, 2018 Super User Posted March 26, 2018 Myself I'd get #3 heavy for the baits. I have no idea for the ovals. 1 Quote
Super User JustJames Posted March 26, 2018 Super User Posted March 26, 2018 I think mine is #2 hyper wire and it definitely bigger than most split ring those come with lures. Quote
BrackishBassin Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 Don’t know prices for the Owner stuff, but Jann’s Netcraft sells stainless steel split rings that I used to convert my saltwater stuff over to in-line single hooks. Haven’t had any issues with them in the two years since I put them on. They were pretty darn cheap too. Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 Off topic but by far the best split ring pliers I have used. Xuron Best price. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Split-Ring-Pliers-Xuron-496-Jump-Rings-Opening-Plier-Jewelry-Wire-Bead-Working/190500158717?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 28, 2018 Global Moderator Posted March 28, 2018 #2 and #3 are what I use for a majority of my baits. 1 Quote
