Slowest Buzzbait

What's the slowest working buzzbait out there? And... can I slow BB's by bending blades?

If you are looking for a slow top water bait I would go for something like a torpedo-type bait. Any bait like that will allow you to slow it to a crawl. It floats and makes a similar buzzing. All traditional buzz baits sink so you can only move it slow to a point and then it drops.

I can't claim I've tried them all but cavitron has the slowest I've tried along with some homemade ones. Clackers require more speed and weight has a lot to do with it as well. Can't help on bending blades.

Cavitron claims to be the slowest and seems to have the highest praise from the guys I talk to. I only tried a couple kinds including the cavitron and I like it.

Slowest buzz baits I know of are doubles that can be crawled and still buzz along the surface.

The strike king triblade buzzbait is very slow and readily available at Walmart.

I'm not sure if this consider a buzz bait for you, but I can pause this buzz since it is kind of float.

Weight as said above being a big factor, if youre into tinkering it can be done....Im a buzzbait nut but personally dont want fish getting a great look at them- Ive seen bass do some things chasing buzzers in shallow water I didnt know they were capable of- (speed and distance traveled). 

 

-You can shave some weight of a larger 1/2 lure w/a file.

 

-Add a colorado blade. It works. I loved the secret weapon brand that came with em when they were here locally.

 

-The side by side models that counter against each other are the slowest out of the box as said above.

 

-Ive tried bending props but more often than not it seems to effect the bait wanting to plane correctly...Total crap shoot IMO.

adding a trailer will increase boyancy and allow you to fish it at a slower speed without sinking.

As an alternative, you can always throw a Whooper Plopper.

The more water resistance on the blades (cupping) coming through the water during the retrieve the slower the buzz bait can be worked to keep the bait near the surface. The more open  cup (less water resistance) the blade has -the faster it has to be retrieved to keep it along the surface. Punch some holes in the blade so that when it is retrieved slower -the blades releases or displaces  some of the stress on the blades keeping it from rolling to one side..

 

Just freakn buy a cavitron for heavens  sake  i thought all this stuff out for yas already - get with the program

When thinking about tinkering I was thinking along the lines of using an in-line. I also like the big CO blade idea too.

 

Here's what I'm after: Essentially a waking/bulging buzzbait. A friend had bought a very cheap standard buzzbait style from a local hardware store. It had a plastic head! If reeled at buzzbait speed it just planed on its side. So my buddy retrieved it really slow. It sat really low in the water, and just waked and bubbled, crawled in the surface film. Oh my, did it catch bass, and big ones. Waking and bulging baits tend to interest big bass and, remembering my buddies cheap buzzer, I'd like to make something like that.

Thanks Bobby. I probably ask this question every spring!  And every spring I say I should pick up a Cavitron. Guess it's time.

Accent Hi Rider's Buzz B 2 is the slowest out there. It is a double blade model with floats. The best single blade model for slow crawling is the Cavitron, and overall it's my best buzzbait.
