GoneFishingLTN Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 For jerk baits/chatterbaits? I'm looking for a new reel for this technique and was wondering which one to get. also is there a big difference between the 6:8 to 6:4 gear ratios? Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 The difference between those examples is 4/10 of a spool rotation per turn of the handle, meaningless in application. Those techniques don't require anything special reel wise. It's all personal preference. Quote
LionHeart Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 Check the inch per turn on both reels on lews web site. They both have the same line recovery of 28 inches per handle turn. So they are both identical in speed. Difference in torque? It would be undetectable. Quote
GoneFishingLTN Posted March 22, 2018 Author Posted March 22, 2018 Ok thanks I just didn’t know if one the (bb1) was only meant for cranking since I seen some reviews about it being used for that. Quote
LionHeart Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 Bb1 is known for being a very good all around reel. Personally I think 28 inch per turn is perfect for all crankbaits Quote
desmobob Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 I have older versions of both those reels. I had been using several Tournament Pros for a while before I tried a low gear ratio BB1 for deep cranking. My first impression was, "Man! This thing can cast!" I think the difference between 6.8:1 and 6.4:1 gear ratios is insignificant. As for the choice between those two reels, I don't think you could go wrong with either and I'd go for whichever one I could get the best deal on. Tight lines, Bob Quote

Tight lines, Bob That was my exact thought with the first cast I made with an Okuma Helios Air. I didn't have that thought with any of the 3 Lew's I own....an older Tournament Pro, Tournament MB and Pro Z. Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted March 22, 2018 Super User Posted March 22, 2018 They're built on different platforms and have different braking systems. Both are great casters. The pro G has an external cast control. The BB1 does not. The Pro G may handle lighter baits a bit better. You can't miss with either model. Quote
