Hey all,

Weather in Virginia has been all over. Has been hard to tell how far along the bass are as far as the pre-spawn goes. In my estimation, many fish are still holding to winter patterns, no? Anyway, from what you all have seen would y'all say we are closer to the beginning or the end of the pre-spawn? Thanks and cheers!

Cold front and winter storm will push them back into the deeper water.

When the water temps start to warm the spawn will begin.

Watch those dogwood trees. They have buds on them now but they are not progressing during this coming winter cold front and storm headed our way.

It will be soon. It will be soon.

I fished western branch on saturday and was targeting the main creek channel where it swings up against shallow coves/flats. No idea if that was the right strategy for bass as I didn't catch any (using hair jigs, swim jigs crawled on the bottom, and blade baits), but I did manage to hook into a 9lb catfish on the blade bait. It provided at least a minute of hope that I had hooked a new PB lol.

@Sam knows the drill here in VA! From him I learned

about the dogwoods and spawn.

Appreciate the tips guys. I was able to get out on Sunday but only managed some small crappie. It seems like all the big fish, crappie and bass, are waiting just a while longer. I'll keep my eyes on the trees then.
