line size

I have a question about 15 and 20 lb. monofilament line.  I have  daiwa  and  Bass pro qualifier bait casting reels and the recommended size line on both is 12 lbs, not the drag.  Can I place either of these two line sizes on those reels?  I feel it could effect casting distance. Jim

Yes of course you can. I think they list the line size and then list how many yards of that size it will hold on that particular spool. They are not actually recommending you only use that size.  I have both those reels and run anything from 10lb mono to 17lb fluro and 50lb braid

Unlike spinning reels you can spool line a lot heavier than spec “recommended” in bcs.

The only potential issues with using heavier lb test line in a LP baitcaster is reduced managebility, shorter casts with lighter lures and reduced line capacity, and subsequent reduction in IPTs at the end of a long cast, not so much with 15, more more so as you go heavier, but assuming you match all that up, it shouldn't be problem.

If this will help, I had a Pro Qualifier for three years (got $50 for it on the BPS trade in for a Chronarch) and loved that little reel.  I had it spooled with 20lb BPS Excel mono and used it for plastic swim baits and plastic frogs.  It never missed a beat.
