when water temp. is talked about?

Hi all,

There is a lot of info mentioning fish patterns related to water temp. Like some one says when the water temp hits X the fish should start moving to Y. That kind of thing. Most of us have fish finders that display water temp., but this is only at transducer level. When water temp is mentioned are they talking at transducer level? If you read something like when the water temp. hits X the fish will start moving from 15 ft. to 5 ft. do they mean at transducer level? If not, how does that help us? I assume most of us don't have a thermometer on a line to check temps at different depths ?

Good questioning.

WhenI studied bass behavior and put together my Cosmic Clock and Bass Calendar the temperatures noted where the basses body temps at the depth they were located. Bass don’t live on the water surface and being cold blooded animal thief body temp is the same as the water around them.

Today I don’t know of any bass using a deep temporibe.

I just go by ducer temp

Almost everyone goes by surface temp or transducer temps because that's what is measured in most boats. Guys that correlate fish behavior with water temps are mostly using surface temps for their conclusions. In the early spring surface temps are actually warmer than main depth temps. As the year progresses surface temps are warmer than than main lake temps leading up to turnover. Comments about spawning temps are based on surface temps mostly. 

I get daily water temps as reported in the local newspaper based on a reading coming from 12 feet deep. Those temps pretty much follow my own surface temp reading during prespawn.
