Ryand15 Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 I'm looking to buy a new unit for my boat. I've been doing research but still I'm learning a few things. Figured I'd ask some help from people who are more experienced than me. I've always been a river fisherman and got a boat and starting to lake fish and want to get a unit that best suits me, for the best price. Here's what I'm looking at: http://bbgmarine.com/humminbird-heli...o-p-24292.html Vs http://bbgmarine.com/humminbird-heli...o-p-23563.html I know the g2n is the newer of them, but I don't think I'll ever utilize the networking, unless it's something that I really need to start using and learning. What's your all opinion on those two? Or do I need to look elsewhere for what I need? Thanks so much. Quote
Super User Further North Posted March 23, 2018 Super User Posted March 23, 2018 GO with the bigger screen... Quote
riverbasser Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 Networking is nice but its really a convenience thing. I agree with getting bigger screen Quote
Ben Miller Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 Hey, I have the Helix 10 Si/GPS Combo. Got it a few months ago and it was my first fish finder ever. I'm only beginning to understand it but seems good. SI/GPS Combo Quote
Super User Further North Posted March 23, 2018 Super User Posted March 23, 2018 The 9" Helix in the link can be networked... It can't do everything an networked G2N does, but it does enough to be very useful. Quote
Super User Angry John Posted March 23, 2018 Super User Posted March 23, 2018 I like the bigger unit up front in any case. I bought a 7n for my yak because when I get a boat next year that's what I plan to use at the console. The add a 9 or 10 up front linked and your done. Quote
Ryand15 Posted March 24, 2018 Author Posted March 24, 2018 Thanks so much for all the input, I'm placing the order either tomorrow or Monday. Looks like general census is for the bigger screen. Quote
Buccaneer Posted March 24, 2018 Posted March 24, 2018 I bought my Helix 9 & 7 SI units from BBG. Brian is good people. Do yourself a favor and take advantage of the Humminbird transducer upgrade program. If your unit comes standard with the compact SI transducer, upgrade to the HDSI transducer. It will give you 800 MHz SI frequency for a much higher level of definition. The upgrade will cost you $85, but the transducer is $150 if you were to buy it. http://www.***.net/showthread.php?t=667383 Quote

Definitely going to do that, that's been almost everyone's advice. Appreciate it. Quote
